I've been to quite a few concerts. Live music, in my opinion, is one of the greatest things that this (often times shitty) world has to offer. There are a bunch of bands/artists that I wish I could've seen live, tops of which being Pink Floyd, The Doors, and good ol' Hendrix...oh okay, I'd have seen the Beatles too, but that whole silly death thing got in the way.
My all time favorite concert (second and third being the Chile Peppers and Jack Johnson respectively) was The Pixies. They performed in the Plaza of Nations last year, and they absolutely rocked my world. I got off work at 7am, got home at 8, and we were on the road by 10. It was going to be awesome!
My piece of shit car started overheating when we hit bumfuck nowhere Hope, and the only place open to help us was a shop called the Car Guys. After checking the car, I tell them that I'm pretty sure that there's a leak in my radiator, and ask if they can patch it. I'm tired and just want to get to Van. I'm freaking out because at this point, there's a very real possibility that we won't make it. A 90year old crazy lady with a cart is walking on the other side of the street. I point her out to my boyfriend, and he says "Yeah, there's the town's mayor". I'm not kidding- this place sucks. Finally, after over an hour of waiting, one of the 'Car Guys' comes out and tells me that my fan is fine. GOOD JOB GENIUS! I know my fucking fan is fine. I can HEAR it. It sounds like a FUCKING FAN! I have no time. I tell him to put some stop leak in my radiator (which he hasn't checked yet) and let me go. They charge me close to $100.00. I tell them no- they didn't do what I asked them to do. They politely (as politely as inbred pig fucking assholes can be) remind me that they have my keys. Grudgingly, I handed the money over to Darrel, his brother Darrel, and his other brother Darrel.
Okay, so I got fucked. Hard. Without lube, a kiss afterwards OR a call back. It felt kind of like it does every year when I file my taxes, but we were on our way to see the Pixies.
I spent the evening close to the stage, and surrounded by pot smokers. I'd been up for 36 hours, had a decent contact stone (I don't smoke it), and was pressed up against all kinds of other adoring fans. It was surreal. The venue is indoor/outdoor, and the ceiling is made up of half-panes of glass. With the lights, you could look up and see the crowd in it. Everyone there was in a great mood. I was so happy. When they played Velouria and Wave of Mutilation, I was in heaven. Frank Black and the rest of the band provided the perfect end to a less than perfect day.
So Uber? Lets have your best concert experience.

ARgh stupid teens, I'd give my fucking right nut to see floyd in their day.
Opeth are going to kick ass this july, I can't wait.
I'd have loved to see At The Gates or that Monsters of Rock festival, Alice in Chains and Metallica would have ruled.
Ozzfest this year is going to be pretty good with Arch Enemy (even with angela) In Flames and IRON FUCKING MAIDEN
but yeah, I saw velvet revolver again thursday night, kicked ass. velvet revolver rock pretty fuckin hard.

Hmm, a few one springs to mind actually
Tragedy, supported by Ambulance and Meanwhile live in Stockholm late 2003(?)
Fucking awesome anyhoo and surprising as well since Todd had his appendix removed the day afterwards. The crowd went berserk on the stage and since it was one small fucking club it was...intense.
Consume and Born//Dead, supported by Ekkaia live in Berlin autumn 2003
One vicious fucking show, total drunk-punk extravaganza, the venue was a squatted warehouse section and there was broken glass on the floor, drunk 55-60 year old squatters and a good time was had by all! Ekkaia from spain are aquaintances of mine so meeting them again rocked.
Harum-Scarum live in Gothenburg 2004
Perfect show, perfect playing and an audience of 85% women. No complaints from me.
on the other hand I've gone to .... 100+ concerts easily, plus a few bar shows and maybe 15-20 in cultural centers and stuff like that. And what band did Shlongy play in anyway? Seems like there is a good chance I listen to them....

Me & a friend went to see the Eels in manchester a couple of years ago, but we got there hours too early, so we bought some magic mushrooms, ate them & went somewhere where we thought it was quiet so we could roll some spliffs. Turns out we were stood behind the building where they were playing, cause the lead singer walked round the corner, saw the spliff & laughed, while we were stood tripping our tits off thinking 'Is that him? No, it can't be. But it looks like him'. The next few hours are blurry, although I did wake up the day after with a giant E drawn on my shirt in marker pen & a picture of me & E. Phat night.

My best concert experience will be in a month and a few days because FUCKING AUDIOSLAVE IS COMING TO PRAGE. WOO! Audioslave aren't my favourite band, but I think they're pretty good and Tom Morello is one of my favourite modern guitarists.
*note: this will also be my FIRST concert ever. I'm fucking pumped for this.

clearly this has a lot to do with musical taste, but my favorite band (NIN) isn't even close to my favorite live show
Tom Waits - unbelievable live. this man has more stage presence in his goddamn little finger than any other band i've seen.
Tool - second best band i've ever seen put on a show that blew me away. there was a spotlight on every band member EXCEPT maynard, who was positioned at the back of the stage on the left.

The Monster of Rock sometime in the mid 90s. Van Halen was the headliner, Alice in Chains and Faith No More were the openers, Metallica and somebody else in the middle. My ears hurt for weeks. Motley Crue on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour was pretty awesome (they filmed the Wild Side video at the concert I went to, so the crowd was pretty into it).
Close second was a Godsmack concert I went to at a club in Boston before Godsmack got big. Best small venue show I've ever seen.
Then of course I always enjoy the buskers in around and on the London tubes. I'll never forget some jackass singing some "Mind the Gap" themed song set to the the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies. I think I gave him 5 quid just for the entertainment.

The J. Geils Band, and Greg Kihn were the openers.
The sound was terrible, like being in a giant garbage can, but it was lots of fun!
The best part was that my buddy and me started out with a six-pack of malt liquor, which we traded for some joints, and then traded some of those for some mushrooms, and traded some of those for some cocaine - I was extremely baked and happy!

Garbage at the Forum in Kentish Town. November 1995. Purely because, at the tender age of 15, it was my first proper night out boozing in the capital. I was absolutely fucking ratted.
Another highlight was Josh Wink at Tribal Gathering in 1996. Felt like 'Higher States' was dragged out for at least four hours before thundering to a crescendo. Try listening to that when you're not pilling your tits off and it's almost unbearable, but I was in heaven that day.

I am going to cheat slightly and include a couple for differing reasons.
Best for the pure experience of being there.... GWAR at Middlesbrough Arena circa 1995/6.
The full on stage show with the blood spurting over the crowd was something to see.
Best for boasting about...Coldplay at Middlesbrough Cornerhouse.
Saw them play to an audience of under 100 people about a week before "Yellow" was released and they went massive.
Best for Atmosphere.... U2 at Wembley Stadium on the Pop Mart tour.
79000 people, Salman Rushdie special guest on stage. They were past their best in my opinion but still put on an amazing show.
Best Musically..... Benicassim Festival, Spain 2002.
The Cure
Suede
Super Furry Animals
The Beta Band
Electric Soft Parade
Doves
Air (at 5.30am watching the sun come up)
Radiohead
Primal Scream
Muse (I agree with Spam, I wasn't a fan before but I am now)
Supergrass
Belle and Sebastian
Pal Weller
DJ Shadow
Felix Da Housecat
and many many more.
On top of all of these there is one other band who I never tire of seeing whenever and wherever they may be.
Alabama 3 (They did the theme to the sopranos).
Simply the best live act I have ever witnessed.

When I went backstage all-access to Coachella a couple years ago on Spearhead's drug dealer's bus. It had vapo-brothers vaporizers built in underneath the tables and everyone (not me, actually, there were "energy vampires" around all the time) was vaping DMT all the time. My friend had converted the bus to run on vegetable oil and they brought him along as a "thanks", and to explain the bus to people, and fix anything that came up. They worked him like a stray dog being fucked by shlongy in a dark Hong Kong alleyway, but when they told him he could come, he said "Only if I can bring a friend..." one of my best friends.
I got to enjoy seeing QOTSA, and was 5 feet from the drummer. I was a few feet from Jack White, and let me tell you that 7-foot-tall motherfucker can SOLO. You would NOT know it by his cd's. He ripped it like Jimmy. I smoked and chilled with Alicia... you know what, fuck it, I'm going to make an uber post about this.
I've always liked G love and he put on an AMAZING show that night. Amon tobin was really good too... coachella is sick, especially (or perhaps only) with an all-access backstage pass. suckers.

Tool - Lollapalooza '97, St. Louis, MO
They came on right after Snoop Doggy Dogg and blew his scrawny black ass off the stage. They opened with 'Hooker With a Penis'. Maynard was wearing the clown wig and pants and a red bra, and his face was painted white with this exaggerated, transfixed smile. Aenima had just come out the previous year and they were fucking incredible! I felt like I was tripping acid, even though I wasn't....or was I??? Hmmmmmm.....
Prodigy came on after them, which was a mistake in organization. There was just no following Tool on this night. I left before Prodigy had finished completely. I've seen them twice since then, and they were still awesome, but not like that first time in '97. They were in full force that night.
Here are some of the bands or acts I've seen over the years:
Beck
John Prine
David Allan Coe
Buckethead
KISS
Metallica
W.A.S.P.
ZZ Top
White Zombie
Ozzy Osbourne
Primus
System of a Down
Soulfly
Sevendust
Coal Chamber
Motorhead

Melvins
Incubus

i had everything set up.
i had arranged the ride (neither of my poor friends or me drove at the time)
i had a place to spend the night at
i had an excuse for my parents (they were real strict about rock music and the like)
i had the tickets
i had plenty o' money for snacks/weezer memorabilia
my parents made me cancel at the last sec to go to some lame-ass christmas party. the party was being thrown by the woman that got me a job...i'm still working in this awful place today. thanks.
weezer stopped touring after that. they recently posted tour dates but the 5 closest cities are are already sold out (and they aren't even stopping in cleveland). damn.

Steve Miller & Alice Cooper (Individual, not together, otherwise that woulda been one bitchin' tour.) early 90s- I was something like 6 years old, so regretfully, I couldn't appreciate.
Weird Al, 2004- CaptainThorns is right, his live shows are awesome, with all the costume changes and lights and shit. Add to that going backstage and getting my picture taken with him, and you've got a major good time. (proof, bitches: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v82/FunnyAsCancer/Camera%20Whorage/weirdalandi.jpg)
Weenie Roast 2004- The Hives and Velvet Revolver wailing their heads off, Cypress Hill lighting a humongous bong onstage, and seeing the usher for my area sneak down and take a hit off the stoners in front of us. Plus scalping extra tix for close to $200, while my tix were free. Doesn't get much better.

Glastonbury... Early 1990's... I can't remember the year, but it was before all those fences were put in. It was still the summer of love... they had a field where everyone was naked (I didnt go in there).
I spent most of the time off my trolley... I don't remember who played, but I remember it was good.
So good in fact that I don't remember much more than mud and happy feelings...
That probably won't help you buy any tickets to go see anyone, so with that in mind, The Levellers are always good.

The John Butler Trio at Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide, 2002. First concert I ever went to, favourite band ever other than Metallica, and it was awesome. Right in front of John, about 4 rows back.
Powderfinger at Big Day Out 2005, Adelaide, February 4th 2005. Dead centre, 7 rows back, best moshpit ever, I think. Rough at the start, but settled down and everyone enjoyed the show.
Metallica at Big Day Out 2004, Adelaide, January 30th, 2004. 4 rows back, right in front of James Hetfield. Fucking brutal moshpit. I ended up having to get out. Crowd surfing rock, though.
Oh, and meeting The John Butler Trio and The Donnas at the Big Day Out this year was fucking phenomenal. Never forget that, I will not. No.

I would like to send out my deepest and most heart felt appologies to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers for misspelling their name, as well as to all those who were offended by this terrible mistake. Terribly, terribly sorry. Or, if you don't accept my appology, which 7-11 is good for you?

"Um, Lowell sir."
"Oh...the Pixies show?"
"yup"
"Well...how was it"
"fucking awesome"

At the risk of sounding like a hippie douchebag, I must say my best concert experience ever was the Widespread Panic show at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Birmingham, Alabama in July 2001.
They played a fantastic show, and I ran into a bunch of people I knew out in the parking lot (the parking lot being where all the "real" action is at a hippie-jam-band concert).

Muse, Reading Festival 2003.
An hour spent waiting in a downpour, everybody surrounding wearing waterproof ponchos having the effect of a giant rain funnel with me square in the middle. The only thing damper than my attire was my sprits as I was battered by vertical torrents of rain that stung as it slapped my head.
Then they walked on. There was no clapping, no roar of an expectant crowd, no surge forwards. 50 thousand people just dropped into static silence and waited as the band donned instruments.
Lead-man Matt Bellamy stepped up to the mike and stood there for a minute, eyes locked on the floor. After a brief glance around the packed arena he stood strtaight and raked his pick across the strings of his Fender. The resultant chord, coupled with the flash of lightening that streaked across the storm darkened sky was like a ginat slap round the face for crowd and ,woken from our trance, we charged forward.
I can't remember the rest of the gig, I just remember being THERE and completely immersed in the sound.
...and I didn't even like the band before it started.
