"How could he have been decapitated? With what; Private?" asked Wazza to the shaken Trooper.
"It looks like a knife sir. Like his head has been just cut off. Not a sharp clean cut either sir. It's pretty fucked up, uh, it's pretty gruesome sir!" the private snapped a quick heel click overcompensating for his accidental curse in front of his C.O.
"Private," Wazza paused, contemplating the possibilities "I want you to go to the entrance and tell Captain InkyFingers to close the hatch immediately and get us on our way. Stevie, you go with him. Tell me what you think of this KIA."
"Yes Sir!" screamed the young Private just before he spun on the spot and marched out of Wazza's quarters. Stevie closely followed.
"Wazza, I believe we know who could be responsible for this" said Williamson.
"Mr Williamson," began Wazza "I don't know how you address your commanding officers but in the Uberian army I am a Major General and I will be addressed as such. And always, given a salute by a Captain. Is that understood Rebel?"
"Ahh, Yes sir Major General Wazza sir!" shouted Williamson, a little shocked at what had just been said.
"Now you listen here enemies of the empire," Wazza said staring each of the three soldiers down " do not consider me your friend. Do not consider me your ally. Consider me the enemy of your enemy. I am no Rebel and do not intend to be one. Once Bart has been killed you can expect no further support from me. There's more to a war than the black and white of friend and foe gentlemen, although I doubt a lowly Captain and his two sub-ordinates could understand that." A sudden jolt resonated through the zeppelin. They had become airborne.
"Uh, sir yes sir" the trio answered not entirely enthusiastically. Thorpe and Rad gave eachother a confused look. The three had assumed Wazza to be completely loyal to the Rebel cause but now it certainly looked like they were behind enemy lines without an ally. Wazza dismissed the three soldiers and they were shown to their quarters by Stevie_says almost the instance he returned from accompanying the private. Williamson decided against telling Wazza about Stabkill.
For the next 4 hours Rad, Thorpe and Williamson sat in their quarters discussing their predicament. It had become clear that Stabkill had entered the zeppelin and had to kill Private Lechuga to get aboard. It also seemed that Wazza was loyal to the empire but not the emperor and that the three should make sure not to disclose any information that could later harm the Rebellion. Mid-conversation Stevie entered the room.
"The Major General will see you now."
"Thank you." replied Williamson. The three made their way back up to Wazza. "Sir! Captain Williamson and Lieutenants Rad1101 and Thorpe reporting Sir!" screamed Williamson. Wazza sat back in his chair and pointed at Rad.
"I could swear he's a private, Captain" claimed Wazza. Williamson looked over at Lt Rad. He had been forced to wear an Uberian private's uniform though in the Rebellion he was truly a Lieutenant. "You need to look out for little slip-ups like that. They'll get you caught. Spies are hung." Williamson looked back at Wazza blankly. He hadn't a clue what he should say.
"Boys," Wazza continued "we will be landing in Cilfoneton shortly. Give it an hour or so. I've been making arrangements and I can smuggle you out of here in civi's. I can spare you $1000. That should keep the three of you out of trouble for a bit. At the dropoff point, inside a hangar, you can escape out the top. There is an escape hatch on the roof of this zeppelin and you can make your way along a steel railing along the roof. It's just one long, rather wide, steel beam and, as long as you keep quiet, nobody's going to notice you three up there. Following the beam along the roof, towards the back you will find a large suitcase. Within it is your weapon Mr Rad. Right by the weapon you will see a ladder. Climb it out the top of the hangar and you'll be able to climb your way onto another building. This building is civilian and due to the call for troops on the new front it will be unguarded except for a single Trooper out the front. Simply take the elevator down and walk outside and you will be on the streets."
Wazza looked into the trio's eyes one by one to see if they were intimidated by these plans " From there, catch a taxi to The Cilfone Hotel, located 400 yards from the gates of Bart's private palace. Your room is 34D. The room is registered under the name "Eric Rice". Bart is having an emergency meeting with senior military officers this afternoon. You won't have to wait long before he leaves his palace and then... bang!"
Rad stared at the ground with the word 'bang'. The idea of him being responsible for the assassination was still worrying him. "We have already begun our descent into Cilfoneton. Stevie, accompany these men to the escape hatch. Give them their civilian clothes." Wazza looked back at the trio and shook each man's hand "Best wishes gentlemen. For the sake of the Rebellion and the Empire; good luck."
"Come with me." Stevie said from the back of the room. He guided the three to the top of the zeppelin and handed each fresh civilian clothing.
"I hope this fits." Rad commented.
"It will." replied Stevie. "Oh, and take these silenced pistols boys. You may need them."
After a few minutes the zeppelin came to a complete halt and had been pulled into the hangar. Stevie opened a small hatch on the roof. "Good luck fellas" he said as the trio climbed out the roof. The three of them made their way along a steel beam just as Wazza had ordered and made their way to the back of the hangar. There, just as promised laid a suitcase. "Well," said Williamson in a hushed voice making sure he was not heard by the technicians working on the zeppelin below him "looks like there's no turning back from here." Rad picked up the suitcase and the band made their way out the top of the hangar and across onto the nearby building. They made their way down the elevator and exited the building, hopping into the first taxi in the taxi rank.
"To the Cilfone Hotel" demanded Thorpe and without hassle they reached their target.
"Thirty-six dollars!" said the driver when they came to a stop. Williamson handed the cash over to him slowly. He didn't have much skill with Uberian bills and it took a while. The three exited the taxi and made their way up the steps of the hotel. As they entered, the group noticed Uberian flags and pictures of Bart covering the walls.
"Room 34D." said Williamson confidently to the clerk.
"Can I have your name sir?" asked the clerk.
"Eric Rice" replied Williamson.
"Certainly Mr Rice. Here are your keys. Hail Bart-Bart."
The three made their way to their room and slowly opened the door. The room was fresh and clean, the bed was queen size and the room had it's own shower and flushing toilet. During the war these things had come to be seen as luxuries by Rebels. The window gave a clear view of green hills surrounding Cilfoneton and more importantly the main road and palace gates. The room was perfect for an assassination.
"Rad, take position next to the window and set up your weapon." Williamson ordered.
"Yes sir" replied Rad sitting down to assemble his rifle. The trio sat there in wait of Bart's departure for twenty minutes when a knock at the door came unexpectedly.
"Roomservice!" called a voice from out the door.
"We didn't order any." called back Williamson. Silence ensued for a moment.
Without warning the door was kicked in and a man with a knife in hand jumped across the room behind the bed while Williamson and Thorpe fumbled for their pistols.
"Kill the fucker!" yelled Rad.
"You don't want to be doing that!" yelled back Stabkill lying behind the bed out of view of the trio.
"Fucking oath we do!" shouted Williamson "You nearly killed DR!"
"Who?"
"One of my privates Stabkill, you dirty Rogue!"
"Rogue? Are not Rebels simply an army of Rogues. Tsk tsk tsk. Listen to me you three. If I wanted you dead I would've done it. Do you really think if I wanted to kill you I would have burst into the room like this? I'm not that foolish gentlemen. I needed to talk to you without you killing me."
"Fuck." Rad interrupted. "The gates are opening, Bart will be coming past soon. Kill that Stabkill so I can get my shot at him."
"No!" yelled Stabkill "Do not kill Bart! Listen I'm going to stand up. Don't shoot!"
Stabkill stood up slowly and walked out from behind the bed. Williamson and Thorpe had their silenced pistols trained on Stabkill's heart. "Look," says Stabkill calmly "If you fire that weapon Lieutenant Rad, this hotel will be swimming with Troopers in minutes."
"We know that." snapped Williamson "We're willing to die to take down Bart. We'll just fight our way out of this hotel until we run out of bullets or die."
"Fight?" answered Stabkill "With what?"
Stabkill dropped to his knees and reached for the knife from his pants. Williamson and Thorpe both began firing at him. Stabkill took 40 bullets before the two had run out of bullets. Still, Stabkill wasn't even hurt.
"Idiots" said Stabkill quietly "They were blanks. Can't you see? You've been set up!"
"What?!" said Thorpe looking at Williamson in amazement. Both their faces had turned white at the sight of a man apparently take 40 bullets and not die.
"There's no time to explain. Rad, don't fire that sniper or we are all dead." said Stabkill.
"Fuck!" said Rad "I see the car. It's Bart. He's leaving the palace."
"Fire as soon as you can!" yelled Thorpe.
"No you fool!" yelled back Stabkill. "Do not fire. You don't understand. There's more to it than Bart."
Williamson sat with a blank face trying to comprehend what had just happened. Nothing seemed to add up. Why had Wazza given them blank bullets? Why was Stabkill trying to negotiate with them? Nothing seemed right.
"Fuckin' Hell!" screamed Rad "Captain, what the fuck do I do? Bart'll be in sight any moment."
Thorpe began screaming at Rad "Do it! Shoot him!"
"Captain?!" screamed Rad "He's in my sights!"
