Eight AM on a weekday times three
she sits across from me with her
breakfast blend coffee, manicured hands,
bleached hair, makeup line, and smart
aleck grin; with her pocket t.s. eliot reader
flipped open to the same page
just waiting for someone to play the lovesong.
Stuck in mediocrity, she begs me
to bang on the table anthology; make her
feet move; her heart race; her mind work.
But, my mouth is full of Prufrock's
surprisingly bitter peaches which I
just cannot chew, and when she opens her
lips I am slugged in the face by an
angry god who has seen me sucking on
the bittersweet porcupine tits of
knowledge. Tea time inspiration does not
do it for me, nor does my sagging
motivation eating away at the material
that lines my back pocket. I am tired
of not, and will not. So I will
use my razor sharp intellectual teeth to pick
the glue out of her brain locks like a
ravenous buffalo woman shoving mr. t.s. eliot
down her throat so that maybe she will know
what being a real fake writer is like.
I want to bundle myself like a literary pretzel
choking off her air supply with papercuts and
page numbers and while I am in her throat
I will pluck out one, tiny, little peach.
And beat her with it.
I do dare disturb the universe.
