This started out as a response to http://www.ubersite.com/m/64430 but it became so long it needed its own post.

The younger generation today has no manners or sense of what is socially acceptable. It is sad the state that most of the youth today are in. A large majority is slut or gangster wannabes and the rest can do nothing about what the majority are to the older generation's view of people their age. I was at the city park the other day and saw a SIX YEAR OLD saying things that even the crudest sailor wouldn't say and the three kids that were with him were just as bad (I only know the kid was six because there was a banner saying happy 6th birthday and the one I heard was the obvious b-day boy). It is no shock that this is happening thanks to sources such as not only MTV, where the blame usually lies, but to everyday television where is more common to here every other sentence containing d**n this piece of s**t or f* you, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Then we have the issue of drug use, violence, and theft. Thanks to today's lifestyles of the younger generation there are now middle school children with death lists for their shooting spree. It seems that school shootings are becoming more common yet there is very little being done about it. Schools today have random searches and lockdown drills, but is it really enough. The sad story with most of these shootings, not just the younger kids but the older ones (16-25) is that every little argument seems to escalate into a gunfight. And so we get into the availability of illegal weapons (which is another post in itself). The saddest part is that 95% of these shootings, at least where I live, seem to be committed by blacks/African Americans (or whatever the "PC" term is now). People claim it is racially biased to say that most murders (and other violent crimes such as armed robbery) are committed by blacks yet as I have seen over the past few years it is sadly true. I have several neighbors that are black and they live in nicer houses here in semi-suburbia, driver extremely nice cars, and one even has their own gardening crew that comes by every two weeks. These are people who didn't believe that anti-black crap (again suitable for a whole other post) and have made a respectable living for themselves.

Then we have drug use, marijuana is so common now that little is done about it. A friend of mine has a kid in high school that was recently found with a small pocketknife and a couple ounces of pot. His punishment was a 10 day suspension, and that was just for the knife. His possession of pot got him a 3 day school suspension and no legal repercussions. We need harsher punishments for people caught with illegal substances, I'm not saying that we should kill them off or lock them up and throw away the key but I think that a couple weeks in detox and solitary confinement followed by a minimum of six months in jail would help to straighten these people out.

Theft and usually vandalism is on the rise in even small towns, committed by kids who just want a few laughs, and life the drug possessors are usually just getting a slap on the wrist. It is easy to see that we have failed these kids but the tough part is what to do about it. And the answer is not easily found thanks to "political correctness"!

We need to go back to a time when it was still "politically correct" to smack your kid on the butt if they didn't act right. Now parents who do that end up facing charges of child abuse and can no longer see their children. Yet the crack whore down the street still has her kids even though they are on the verge of death from starvation, hidden abuse, lack of a suitable living environment, and drug use. Our legal system is so screwed up that parents can not do their job properly without fear of prosecution. When I have kids if they misbehave in public they will receive the same thing I got when I was their age, a quick smack on the butt. The U.S. has such shitty views and laws today thanks to "political correctness."

Everyday there are more news stories about these very issues yet we are powerless to do anything against the politically correctness of the "great country" of ours, the great old USA. So things will remain the same until enough people say enough is enough and change things. It has happened in the past and it needs to happen now!

PissyRightWingerWithAGun it may be the ultimate wet dream for you to live in a world of Fullhouse rejects, but the thought of that scares most people. Turn off the Fullhouse DvD, leave your fenced off suburban neighborhood and head out into the real world, maybe you'll find a girl who's willing to touch your birdie.. and break you out of your creepy right-win xenophobic shell.

You come across sounding like a self-style geizer. I hate children and teenagers as much as any sane human being, but for clemency's sake, at least say something reasonably assertive like "If I see one more little wanker with pants around his ankles, I'm going to beat him until blood spews from his ears" or "we need to have a draft to get rid of this fucking worthless welfare-reject gangster generation."

My second word was bollocks. I was around a year old. I'm a well adjusted human being with a good job, a flat, a partner and I still swear like a docker.
so what?

as you can see, once I got past the first paragraph I skim read the rest of it and didn't like what i saw.

Speaking as a senior in high school, I agree with alot of what you have said. School shootings are becoming more and more frequent, but whom is really to blame for something of that nature? School security isn't at fault for a student shooting, parents obviously aren't doing their job when children are found with guns and pipe grenades, and I guess that goes back to your insufficient parenting argument. I'm all for parents being able to discipline their children, and agreed with you on that part as well.

My main argument is the marijuana and drug rampancy you claim there is. While marijuana and harder drug use may be on the rise, harsher sentences won't do a thing about it. It's the same princinple as 1920's Prohibition: the larger the risk, the larger the profit. In all honesty, legalization would probably better aid the problems you discussed, but I doubt you'd like to hear that whole argument.

Overall, a good post.

I hear you man, I mean there where like 2 high school shootings in 2003 and almost, what, 5 in 2004? Clearly the end of life as we know it.

Let me tell you something. This is not a new thing. It's always been shitty, there never was any 'Golden Age'. When my dad was a kid there was a boy who'd wander around with a brick on a bit of rope, beating other kids. Back in the 'good ol' days' kids where violent, emotionally stunted thugs. Just as they are today. Just as they will be tommorow.

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

Would have been +2 but -1 for ragging on drug use without mentioning pr0n; as abusing either is about as damaging to one's character. And use != abuse.

Dolson about covered it.
Society usually "sorts them out" in a timely manner for most.
For those who it is not "timely" for,(ie. victims)
well they are usually the one's who enable, allow, participate or encourage
such behavior, with of course, some exceptions.

Dude, although you may have put some time into this, you're way too far out on this one. I'm willing to gamble that you may not have been inside a high school or University for a good while. Take it from someone with his feet closer to the ground, the problems are nowhere near as bad as you have made them out to be. As Pete Townshend wrote, the kids are alright.
=================================================================
Well then give me your money, I'm in college now and graduated in 2004. I know the problems. One thing I forgot to add was teenage pregnancy. There were five expectant mothers in the graduating class of about 500 students, and one was already on their second child. Then there were about a dozen other seniors who already had kids before the end of their senior year.
