The Justice System Part 1 http://www.ubersite.com/m/64535
Just barely off a desert road about 12 miles out of Tucson, Arizona was an old run down trailer home. In the searing afternoon light you could almost watch the paint on the sides crumble and peel away as it danced its constant dance of erosion to the deep rumbling tune of Jack Hind's air conditioner. Inside the trailer walking back to his beat up vinyl chair was Jack Hind. The man was an average height, thickly built and had closely shaved blond hair. Underneath his left eye was a large scar burned into his flesh from a cigar years ago.
Jack wore an ankle length bath robe that looked like it had seen much better days. In his left hand was a diminished cigarette and in his right a pot of coffee. Jack had long since misplaced his last remaining cup and now drank his potent coffee straight from the pot. On his way back to his chair three sharp knocks came from his door.
Jack wasn't expecting anyone so he went swiftly to his desk and pulled open a drawer. From atop piles of neatly stacked hundred dollar bills Jack lifted his Colt revolver, always kept loaded. The knocks came again sounding more impatient this time.
Jack peeked through the blinds on one of the trailer's window and was mildly surprised to see that his visitor was a boy of about 19 years of age. Jack pulled his bath robe tight and held the gun casually at his side while he opened the door a crack.
"Whaddya want?" Jack asked gruffly.
The boy answered in a tentative tone "Sir, it's about my mother, Arlene Myers, I talked to my father about it and he said I should come and see you." The boy trailed off awkwardly.
Jack thought a moment as he stared off at the setting sun. "Alright kid, come on in and tell me all about it." Jack moved out of the doorway and the boy came inside. Jack walked casually backed to his desk as he asked "What did you say your name was?" and with that Jack Hind flung himself to the floor behind his desk barely in time to avoid the bullet fired from the boy's 9 millimeter Berretta.
Four more gunshots rang out as four bullets smashed through Jack's desk but luckily avoided smashing through Jack himself. Without looking over the desk Jack put up his revolver and fired two shots fast before peeking around the side of the desk and firing three more rounds at the back of the fleeing boy.
The boy darted out the door and fired two shots blindly behind him as he ran. Jack fired a round through the side of his trailer at where he expected the boy to be and then leaped up and pulled a two barreled shot gun from where it was mounted on his wall. Like his revolver this gun was always kept loaded.
Jack went to his desk and pulled open another drawer. This one too was lined with hundred dollar bills but on top of the bills were two cases of shotgun shells. Hurriedly Jack grabbed a handful and dropped them into a pocket of his ratty robe. Even as he did so more gunshots rang out and bullets screamed through the air of his home. Apparently the boy was firing randomly into Jack's trailer. Jack knew he couldn't stay here forever or else he would soon be randomly shot.
Jack pointed his gun at where he figured the bullets were coming from and fired. A large section of his wall vanished in a cloud of dust and debris. Jack fired the second barrel before hurling himself through a window on the opposite side of his trailer.
Moving quickly Jack reloaded his gun. He still heard gunshots coming from the boy's pistol so he was especially cautious. When he reached the corner of his trailer he slowly leaned around the edge to see the boy jamming another clip into his gun.
Jack despised shooting children but his personal feelings didn't slow his actions any. He brought the butt of his shotgun to his shoulder and took careful aim at the boy's chest. "Burn in hell kid" he whispered as he pulled back both triggers.
His gun's retort was like thunder and it hurled the boy up into the air and then crashing down to the ground to land flat on his back. More methodically this time Jack reloaded his gun. He didn't it was possible for the boy to have survived but in Jack's business people who relied on what they thought possible didn't get very far.
He kept his gun trained on the boy's chest as he approached slowly. He didn't notice any type of motion, apparently the boy no longer breathed. The sound of an incoming car caused Jack to look up from the boy. A small black Mercedes was speeding across the desert and straight at Jack. Jack brought his shotgun up to his shoulder.
"Drop your gun Mr. Hind" came a passionless voice from behind him that Jack recognized as belonging to the boy.
"What the hell?" Jack glanced down at where the boy had previously lain. The ground was abandoned but Jack knew nobody could have moved that fast. The car came to a halt and Jack heard a click as the boy pulled the hammer on his pistol back.
"Mr. Hind I would like to leave you alive, but it's not essential. Now drop your weapon." Jack let the shotgun fall to the ground. "You are good Mr. Hind but you aren't the best. This situation can end in one of two ways and I will let you decide which. Either you tell me everything you have done so far in the Jacobson case or I'll paint the desert with your brains." The voice remained calm and assertive all throughout the speech and Jack had little doubt that the owner of the voice would be perfectly willing to kill him.
"I hired a girl and managed to obtain a semen sample from Earnest. I planted it on the body of Arlene Myers. They will do the autopsy tonight, before 6:00. Also the secretary that provides Jacobson's alibi will get into a car accident unless someone stops her from driving her car. That's all I have done so far. My employer just contacted me two days ago."
"Thanks Mr. Hind, you have been very cooperative now I want you to lie face down on the ground." Jack did so. "Now keep your head down while I leave and if I see you lift it up, you are a dead man."
The boy holstered his weapon and threw Jack's shotgun back toward the trailer before running up to the black Mercedes. He opened the back door and climbed inside where he was greeted by the driver asking "Where to?"
"We need to go to the morgue, to pay our last respects to Ms. Myers." The boy flipped open a cell phone and made a quick phone call. To the person on the other end of the phone he asked "What's the address on a female secretary who is providing our alibi?" He listened and then relayed the information he got to the driver.
"You should have killed Jack Hind. He will only be trouble to us" Said the driver.
The boy stared at the driver's back for a while "You should keep your advice to yourself, because it will just be trouble for you."
