I work in health club at a hotel. Yes I work in the service industry, and understandably people are going to expect a high standard of personalized service. Thats's fine I am here to meet guests needs and expectations. I knew that taking the job. I am posting this message to make people aware of the amount of abuse and plain bull shit that some of these guests dish out on a fairly regular basis.
I understand that most are at this hotel to be catered to (4 stars) But I would like to be very clear to those who think that I am their personal maid/thereapist/personal trainer/verbal punching bag etc. that I am not.
The following have occured in the past few days and are my inspiration for writing this post:
1. I was told the following- "Hey YOU! WOMAN! YO get me a water!" (angerly)
2. Yesterday the hotub was down for cleaning and because of this I was a "Fucking slow dropout" (I am in honors geography at University)
3. I was handed a dirty diaper with the simple request of, "here"
4. I was told to "shove that plastic cup up your ass!" when I asked a women to please pour her beer in it before heading into the pool area. (She was stinking drunk and entertaining the rest of the day, but the first comment was uncalled for.
I am not the only person receiving this kind of abuse from these adults they treat each ither and their own children just as bad. I have more often then not called guests on the way they treat me and more often then not I am rebuked with more cursing. (Byt this time I've called the manager on duty and have washed my hands of it)
I keep this job becasue it pays well and I can study while I 'm here.
My question to all of you is why as a society do we allow people like the above to get away with the way they treat public service staff? SHouldn't staff morale and human dignity rise above the dollar?

What's really tough is when you work with knives and have these assholes coming in all day, it takes an obscene amount of self-control not to wave it in thier faces and ask them to please repeat themselves

hahahaha I thought that line about the Batman t-shirt was rhetorical. What are you kids eating in that picture? It looks pretty good.

I actually enjoy it when people are assholes to me in my lowpaying jobs. Cause really I dont give a fuck about them. It dont matter what they do or say, they cant get to me. Its actually fun. When people are being assholes I do my best to make sure that they dont enjoy thier time/service that I am doin/helping them with. Its pretty funny how people get so mad at the dumbest shit, and the best part is, who gives a fuck? These people dont mean shit. So my advice to you is, if someone is harassing you call the cops and say he grabbed your tits, take his ass to court, press charges and make his life a living hell. Its so much fun when you can take someone down.

Looks like its my turn now. Watch out, I'm going to get all butt hurt because some stranger doesn't like my t-shirt. For your info, I have much geekier t-shirts than the one I'm wearing in that picture. Assclown.

Holy shit 14 bucks per hour! You're the bomb-diggedy. Now give my my 90% commission slut.
And Quartermain you're my new hero. I'm putting you in for an award right now for being such a gentleman. You're going to get laid so much in the next week, you'll forget you're a fat loser who still wears Batman T-Shirts. You're welcome.

I've worked as a bartender and a grill cook to help myself through school too. People seem to think that they have some kind of right to treat you like shit, that it is one of the perqs of going out to eat, like not having to do dishes afterwards. I actually did get to manhandle one guy though. He was drunk and obnoxious and grabbed a waitresses breast. I grabbed him off his stool by the scruff and marched him out the door and gave him a kick to send him on his way.

Thank you Loki.
And DDT I make 13.33/hr and that only gives me enough to put me through school and pay rent. Where the hell am I going to find another job that pays that well doesn't involve selling my body without a degree??? I was not complaining about my JOB I was referring to the assholes who show up at my desk demanding respect for being ignorant shitheads like yourself.
cheers :)

Why don't you just fucking quit? I feel no sympathy for you. Jeepers, it must suck to work in the service industry. Cry me a river. I hope you never make more than the minimum.

It's because they were born rich and therefore all of us mere mortals need to learn our place. I worked my way through school. Now whenever I'm someplace and see a scene like one of the ones you described above, I take it on myself to tell the person all the things that the target of their abuse would like to say but can't for fear of losing their job.
I have big happy fun time doing this. A couple of months ago I called a guy in CompUSA a fuckwad and invited him to have sex with his dvd recorder. He was being a total ass. Some poor high school kid was taking the time to look up exactly what part I needed and this gift to computer users everywhere kept making that irritated sighing sound behind us because he wanted the kid to unlock some cabinet. What really set me off was when he called the kid an idiot for not knowing what part I needed and having to look it up. I mean here is this kid who is most likely pulling in minimum wage just trying to earn enough money to take his girl to the movies on the weekends and he's actually taking the time to make sure I get the right thing which I may or may not have done at that age.
Then the jackass threatened me and that made me laugh. I mean he doesn't know I'm a black belt and that doesn't even matter. I can just picture the public ass whopping that would have taken place if some guy took a swing at a 5'4" blond woman in the middle of a computer store. Half the kids who work in that place look like they could bench press this guy. It got even funnier when he stormed away and came back with the manager to get me fired. WTF do I LOOK like I work here? Notice how everyone else in the place is wearing a fucking CompUSA shirt and I'm not?!? It was hilarious, his little face was all red and pissed off looking and I was just laughing. Then I told the manager that he couldn't fire me because I quit. He and everyone around thought that was quite clever so then the guy stormed out. I probably cost CompUSA some business but fuck him and fuck all those people at your hotel. You probably work harder in a single day than any of them have in their whole pathetic fucking lives.

That kind of abuse makes me angry. I was a waiter once, and I had a guy throw chicken wing bones at me and tell me to pick them off the table (he was putting the bones on the table, not in a dish). I looked him right in the eye and told him, "Don't pay for your food, don't ask for a manager, don't respond. Get the fuck out. If you don't, I'm going to knock you the fuck out right here." He left, and the other customers actually cheered. I hate pompous assholes. Learn some respect.
