I have a question for the Uber community.......I suppose I could research this on line...
but, as usual, I am bored as hell......and this seems like a more entertaining option than
simply going to google.....
A coworker of mine is, safe to say, a hypochondriac. He is also a very intelligent man.
Not to say that those two things are mutually exclusive by any means.
Apparently he voluntarily (??) went through electro-shock therapy last year to treat mental
problems. Now, I am hearing this second hand from someone else, but they stand nothing to gain by
telling me a potential fib, so I have no reason to doubt the validity of the statement.
However........this is my question.
Do people in the medical profession still practice electroshock therapy? Really???? It
just seems so barbaric, and I do not see how it can practically treat any sort of mental
malady. Especially one that is not so grand that it keeps this person from at least functioning
within society.
Any ideas/thoughts/comments??? Anyone?

1. fib
to tell a lie; to be false
You told a fib to mommy!
'mommy'?
2. FIB
Fucking Illinois Bastard
A lame excuse for an acronym orginated by Wisconsin residents in between daily inbreeding and masturbating to portraits of Vince Lombardi.
without these FIB's contributing so heavily to our economy we would all be poor and even more WORTHLESS.

I believe it is still common practice in Abu Ghraib and Kamp X-Ray. Shlongy also visits some kind of femdom bitch once a week to have similar therapy on his 'nads.. apparently.

Another +2 simply because this was a neutral post and your overall ratings should never be loused up by some miserable prick with nothing better to do.

After a great deal of thought - almost 3 seconds - I'd guess that you're both gay. That should solve it.

Yes, I see ads on the train all the time for studies at Universities. They want to help severely depressed patients for which medications don't work.
I'm not sure if that sentence made sense, I just inhaled a wiff of toxic chemicals and I'm a little woozie (sp?).... I need to go outside for a while....

I not only work in the medical field (for right now at least) but I'm a Psychology grad student. Yes, electroshock therapy (ECT) is still utilized as a treatment for severe depression. Usually only as a last resort when all other treatment options have failed.
No one knows the mechanisims of how it works, they just know that it does.
It isn't like most people envision it, at least not anymore.

thanks for the information. I appreciate it.
