first of all it looks like labour and tony blair will be returned to government with a majority of around 71 (down from 160 odd).

historic third term etc blah blah blah

a couple of points :

the govt of this country, a major world power (save the gags mickginny you know we are really), will only gain THIRTY-SIX PERCENT of the vote.

How the fuck does that work???

Our electoral system is outdated, clearly.

ALSO AND MOST IMPORTANLTY :

The three major supporters of the war usa, uk and oz bush, blair and howard have ALL BEEN RETURNED TO POWER.

More later, back to the goggle box.

No, there isn't anything wrong with our system bar that people don't vote in high enough numbers.

You *could* try proportional representation, whereby if a party gains 36% of the vote, it gains 36% of the seats.

Sounds reasonable, no?

Where else did they try this, I hear you cry?

Germany.

1919-1933.

What happened in '33? Hitler took over because the current Government was shite.

See, you should have been watching Dead Ringers on BBC2...
I don't understand it either, but at least I laughed a little bit throughout the whole experience.

See, from what I can see - if we didn't have the lib dems and all those independants, then we'd have a clear winner...

Still, I'm not sure just two choices is a good thing either.

What really fucks me off is that you can love your local guy, but hate his party... so - do you cut your nose off to spite your wheelie bin or what?

-------------------

Umm... Belle... we have a clear winner. Labour have more seats than the other parties and independants combined. Hence they won, with more than 324 seats, and the 60 odd majority. If there was no clear winner it would be a hung parliament, and we'd end up with a coalition or another election.

Oh well, that's the end of that dream. 5 more years of being shat on by tories and shoveled up by Labour.

One day my people will be free and a Golden Dove wil soar through the skies of this once great land, perhaps even the world.

Ah, fuck it. I don't care who's in charge as long as I get my genetically enhanced, super-cybernetic offspring.

It's not over yet. We want the Lib Dems in opposition, not power. Blair is a good leader. He's educated, diplomatic and a true statesman. Micky Howard is a slimy, back-stabbing tory (even worse than regular tories) and Charles Kennedy is ginger.

Of course if the guys you liked won with 35% of the vote, you would jump up and yell "This is what democracy looks like". Ever notice how its always the losers calling for electoral reform? I'm not British and could personally acre less who won that election, but if the Lib Dems won, I bet you would have said "fair result".

Am I right?

Ok, now you guys have to stay off our asses about re-electing Bush.

====

It's a false comparison really. The Labour party has been re-elected DESPITE Iraq. Blair was able to do what Bush couldn't, which was run on his domestic record - because domestically these guys really do have their act together (unlike some Republican assholes I could mention).

Without Iraq this would have been a third landslide, and another triumph for Blair. You can trace it back to '97, when the Tory leadership got totally decimated. They still haven't recovered.

The axis of weasels. On a sidenote, AC Milan will also be returned to power on the 25th. Good grief, what a mismatch..

Since I haven't read anything you've written for an age, here's a cursory +2 'cause I'm sure I missed something good.

But what I really logged in to say was:

FUCKERS.

They could at least give Michael Howard a chance.

Hmph.

Howard being re-elected had nothing to do with war on Iraq. The whole thing here came down to the Liberals claiming that if Latham was elected home loans would go to from 5% to 16%, which scared enough retards.

Bart: You know, Grampa kinda smells like that trunk in the garage
where the bottom's all wet.

Lisa: Nuh-uh, he smells more like a photo lab.

Homer: Stop it, both of you! Grampa smells like a regular old man,
which is more like a hallway in a hospital.
