We are in a deep period of change. There has never been a period in history, where one human being can communicate with another on the other side of the earth with such ease and understanding. There has never been a time when one person can speak to another, so blithely bypassing not only distance, but culture, religion, politics, and ideology, to speak to each other not only as equals, but as others participating in Life As We Know It.
There has never been another time in history where the mistakes of hatred past could be more easily subdued. The cultural inertia borne of misunderstanding and bigotry could be halted, and rolled back before the waves of senseless enmity carry us out past the point of no return.
The infinite potential of the human race is jeopardized by each successive actualization of violence and despair, Victory and defeat.
We are in a deep period of change. Never before have our institutions seemed so antiquated, so inadequate, as in the modern world. The media, once a monolithic wall of impenetrable falseness, fractures and buckles as it's foundations shift from the machinations of corporate sponsors, to the concerns of the chattering masses. As world order, that once relevant European creation of stalemated super-states, falls largely under the responsibility of one society, one finds a nostalgic appeal in the concept of mutually assured destruction. If war was peace, then peace is war. Militaries are less the coercive sledgehammer, but the fluid, the agile, the glorified swat team. Where there was once lines of men staring each other in the eye, there is now torture, kidnapping, and silent murder.
What you are bearing witness to, is a group of rival gangs competing for control over one very small city. The rest of us will be snuffed out by their mistakes.

Could have done with more elaboration, I'd have like to look at what all this meant rather than someone musing over a truism. That said K.M is a bonafide genius and we all need to be reminded of truisms now and then anyway.
