The threat of arrest, the dragging of my name through the mud, and the loss of the woman I love all hang over my head, I can tell no one about it. So, I have to vent here.
About two years ago I met this beautiful woman. She owns a salon/day spa, she's my age, and she has a kid. We had such good times together, her and I, that I decided to accept the fact that she had a son, and I accepted him as my own.
About a year ago, we moved in together. As everone knows, things change when you move in with your significant other. You discover all the little things about someone that just drives you crazy.
"You don't ever do the dishes!"
"You don't lift the toilet seat!"
"You don't pick up your clothes!"
"You don't wipe with toilet paper!"
Stuff like that.
Anyway, we worked through the mess and I also learned how to be a father. Now, I wasn't the greatest dad. I tried, though, I really did. I bought books on fathering toddlers, I read up on stepparenting, I learned the Elmo song. I got to teach him some things about football, Star Wars, and eating with a fork. It was fun.
But, sometimes it wasn't. I can be impatient at times, and as any parent knows, raising children requires an infinite reserve of patience. I would get frustrated and that would lead to fights with my girl (who by now was my fiancee), which would lead to no sex for a week. Times were getting tough.
To make matters worse, her family lived in town. Now, if they were a normal, nice family, that would have been fine. But unfortunately, I had to pay for my fiancee's ex's mistakes. Her older sister hated me from day one. In two years she never said one word to me. Her mother was more passive/aggressive. She would tell my future wife that I was to strict for our son, that I would be taking them away from her, that I was the devil (maybe not that far, but you get the idea).
Me and the misses had a talk one day. Everything came out: I was mad that her family hated me, I didn't know if I was ready to be a dad, and I was feeling bad about the relationship; she was tired of me bad mouthing her family and felt I was too strict for the boy. We decided to take a big step back and postpone the wedding. We would wait until next year and take things slower. It seemed like a fine idea.
However, we had left the boy at her mother's house that day to have the talk. When my fiancee went to pick him up, she told her mother about our talk. Her mother immediately told her that she should stay at her house until I moved out of this house. When I was told this, it again seemed like an o.k. idea. I would miss them, but moving out was part of the plan anyway.
Just lately though, it seemed my fiancee was coming over to visit me less and less. She never brought the boy over. She would pull up to our house from the back entrance. She seemed to be sneaking around.
I confronted her about it, and she just brushed it off. She said she didn't want the boy getting too close to me if we might be splitting up (what?) and that her mom was giving her crap about coming over to my place. I told her she should grow up and stand up to that woman.
Gotta shorten this story.
So, the other day I call over to her mom's house to talk to her. I want to tell her I'll be late from play practice and we'll have to meet later. Her mom answered the phone instead and the conversation went something like this:
"CV?"
"Hello, ma'am."
"I know what you did. Stay away from her and (the boy)!"
"What are you talking about?"
"He told me it was you. You touched him!"
"WHAT? I NEVER..."
"Are you saying I made this up?"
"Yes! I'll take a polygraph. I'll swear before a judge that I never did anything like that!"
"Well, if you don't stop calling, I'll start an investigation. Your name will be ruined if you get investigated about something like this."
"I didn't do anything." (By now, I'm hyperventaliting with anger, sadness, confusion)
"Stop calling, or I'll get you investigated. It'll ruin you. Stay away."

I had to leave practice because I thought I was going to have another heart attack. I came home and laid down trying to think about it.
My ex-fiancee came over about an hour later.
"I can't see you any more or your mom will say I ... I ..."
"I know," she said.
"What?"
"She said she didn't want you around us anymore. I'm sorry, but I've sneaking over here to protect you. She's crazy."
No shit, folks. No shit.
So, now I have no choice. I am moving from this home, full of memories of happier times when it housed a family. I can longer see or talk to my love and the child I was ready to make my son. Life has taken a turn toward the surreal.
Every night I wonder why someone would do this. Every night I try to drink away the pain.
Every night I look at their pictures and say goodbye.

The mother-in-law isn't the only bitch here.

No way in high hell was this girl trying to protect you. She was just too damn weak to look you in the face and tell you it was over. It's much easier to blame it on her crazy mom. She's probably just as wacky as her mom is anyway... b/c if she wasn't, she wouldn't get all tied up in a knot about you bad mouthing her family.
The way you think this all went down, and they way it actually went down are two completely different things. The fiancee had a devious plan going on here, don't doubt it.

I'd try to get as much dirt as you can on her mother, if you can afford it, hire a PI, and then blackmail the fucking bovine.
If that fails, just walk away. No one needs that kind of trouble.

If this is for real, then I would say that it is a double edged sword where both sides cut deep.
1) It has to suck to go through it but...
2) It is better to go through it and walk away now than to have to deal with it after being married for a while.....
