Growing up in Hollywood, Ca was an interesting experience to say the least. For us the weekend meant going to the Sunset strip to watch some local bands play and the street of Sunset, at least back then before the cops blocked yah from hanging out on the sidewalk, was always filled to capacity with drunk girls in spandex sporting ample rack jobs, guys wearing their girlfriend's clothes and legions of cocaine snorting kids that spent every last ounce of energy they had to party like the rock stars they were never going to be.
There really wasn't anyone I knew that wasn't going to be rich and famous for doing something some day, and even still you can hear the same tired rants from the kids that talk about getting their big break out here come hell or high water.
But now, some 15 years later, I occasionally run into someone I knew back in the day and they're working an honest job with some kids at home, a plump wife and maybe they still have a guitar lying around somewhere but they don't really think about playing music anymore. It's all about death, taxes and braces for little Billy these days. Yep, the future rock stars of yester year are unfortunately all grown up and responsible now....except for a very select few.
The relentless pursuit of one's dreams isn't always a pretty thing, but my hat still goes off to those kids that never grow up, never surrender and rock with their cocks out 'till the lights go out.
Where are they now? In the same place you last saw them, two streets down and only on Wednesday nights after 1am.
