The city deadened him with noise
Of cars, and work, and talk.
Crushing, leeching, joys, and dreams,
And it was not silence.
He moved to suburbs green and fair
To seek his peace and found
That laughter chased him everywhere,
But it was not silence.
To pastures placid, resplendent
With herd, and flock, and field,
Moved he 'til history was rent
And images, silence.
But mem'ry was the thing that stayed
Inhabiting his thoughts.
And images though never played,
Still, it was not silence.
And thus found he himself inside
A vault 'neath earth and light,
Where none of senses could reside;
All was there was silence.
The only noise was blood that streamed
Through empty shell, and the
Voices that in hollow head screamed:
"We will not be silence!"

Can't have the braindead fuck lowering the average rating of this, after all.

Seriously, go read some Ginsberg. This shit has been dead for centuries.

I'll not pretend I understood all of that - but it read well.

I usually skip the poetry, but this is good stuff.
