Well upon the witching hour now lies every soul at rest-
The soft abiding gurgle of suburban sewers dampened
By the resounding cacophony of silence permeating.

Amidst the gentle wetness of rolling moonlit fog
Crouch two figures alone, in darkness interposed.
And in their evening meditations, should the tacit hand
Of fragile mortality at any moment claim them
Not a whisper need acknowledge their unanxious, quiet absence.

Yet unpronounced considerations that to one human may
Mean messianic revelation to calm his torpid soul
To another reveals nothing and will be discarded without notice.

While graceful nonchalance and unassuming feline gait
Belie the agéd wisdom educed from years of observation
A bond unspoken calls two children of sedated mind
Into ritualistic contemplation of all that does surround.

What burden of the soul now arouses curiousity?
What susurrated serendipity
Would bring such brothers hither?
Not either knows the nature of that violent visceral spark
That arouses them from their slumber to meander on into the night.

Yet who upon this planet has not felt the witching hour-
It's absolute capacity to seep into the mind.
Though perhaps it goes unanswered, all have received the call.
Though perhaps one would deny it, it remains within us all.
And into its everpresence no man will not be drawn.

A hand meets fur, man's eye to cat's- and not a word is spoken.
The message is the same from either to the other:
Caper on, and never cease, O contemplating friend.

Haha. Jeremy.

Yeah, dude- today (or, yesterday, since it's now been like seven hours and technically from yesterday's perspective it's tomorrow... woah, deep...) was the first time I've even been on the site in two months. And before that, I only stopped by for a couple of days to check out a thing or two and post two articles after three months of not being here prior.

So, in short, I'll read 'em after sleeping for a couple of hours. And then I will comment.

Boy, will I ever comment.

I just remembered...

You once busted on me for not having more ethnically diverse names in Deep Water Dreams. I've posted the first three chapters of Part 2 and I've been missing your critiques. Don't make me linkwhore it.

Now ease my mind and tell me your first name isn't Mark.

------------

You lucked out. My name isn't Mark. The primitive voice box of humans is not capable of the necessary sounds to pronounce my proper name. Roughly translated it means, He Who Walks Behind The Shadows.

Yeah, that or Jeremy - take your pick.

I happen to be reading Dante's "Inferno," and the choice of words and poetic style remind me of it. It's definately good stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never read it. Always wanted to, though.

Oh, and it's like five in the morning here now. This sleep thing totally isn't working tonight.

I've decided to clarify a point before some pseudo-intellectual jerkface came into my post and jerked it all up:

Yes, it IS possible to "calm a torpid soul". Torpid means apathetic. Apathy is a lack of emotion.

Serenity (also known as "calm" by certain cultures, exclusively excluding the French) is an emotion. Emotion being a state inherently counterpoint to apathy: the lack thereof.

In retrospect, I'm not entirely certain why I took the time to write this comment. Seriously, why the hell am I bothering to put this up here? None of you have any idea what I'm talking about, or why I'm taking the time to say it. Not just right now in particular, but more or less in general... like, all the time.

I'm sitting here right now telling myself that nobody was seriously going to come in and argue with my choice of words in this silly little poem. Like, honestly. Most of you probably didn't even read the damn thing. I know most of the posts I look at get skimmed- especially if it doesn't GRAB my interest in the first couple of lines. And because this one didn't have anyone crapping their pants or licking a bum's ass in the first couple of lines, you can bet most people's attention wasn't grabbed.

Short answer, it's really late at night. At least, that's my excuse right now. I don't really have one for all the other times I wrote things on this website that nobody understood the meaning or purpose of (least of all, myself). And yet, here I am, continuing to type things that don't make sense into the little comment box that I probably should have left as part of my INTERNAL monologue.

And I haven't even hit the "Rank" button yet.

Say, where are my pills?

Hell man, I liked it. I like eerie, spooky, and atmospheric things. This falls under that category.

Is it weird that Poe's writing gets me aroused?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You too, eh? Let me guess- you also like watching your significant other apply ice to their nipplets.

Yep, great minds think alike.

Wait, what?

Ugh. Yeah, first post in months. I'm sure it will be received great, and uh... good to see you all again.
