I read with interest another ubersite post about the pending release of Karla Homolka. Karla is the ex-wife of Paul Bernardo and has almost finished a twelve year sentence for manslaughter. Paul Bernardo is currently serving a life sentence for the rapes and murders of about a dozen women. He is indeed an evil monster who deserves the harsh and lengthy prison term which he got.
Let's take a little closer look at Karla Homolka. Her trial took place just over 12 years ago. During the trial it was determined that Karla had been intimidated by her evil husband. She had a choice of whether to do what Paul said or to incur the same wrath that Paul inflicted on his other victims. In short, Karla had NO choice.
In any case, Karla has served 12 long years in prison and by all accounts has been rehabilitated. She will be released from an institution in Joliette, Quebec -- 55 miles north of Montreal -- on June 23 of this year. Karla intends to find accommodation and seek employment in Montreal.
Karla behaved well in prison and diligently learned the French language. Karla will be a true Canadian -- having learned both official languages: French and English. Prior to her involvement with Paul Bernardo, Karla was a model student and was subsequently hired as a veterinarian's assistant.
Anyone living in the north-eastern U.S. or anywhere in Eastern Canada will no doubt be reading and hearing a lot about Karla Homolka over the next couple of months. I saw in the news today how Canadian government officials are seeking a court order requiring Karla to submit a DNA sample for a criminal database.
It sounds to me like justice has been served and it is time to let bygones be bygones. I was never terribly religious but I have been exposed to certain teachings of the Holy Bible. a) Turn the other cheek b) That person who has never sinned -- let him/her cast the first stone c) One should remove the log from his eye to enable him to see and remove the speck in another persons eye.
Let's each and every one of us search deep within ourselves and seek forgiveness for poor Karla Homolka - and other women like her. I know that most of you will agree that Karla deserves a second chance. You have my personal promise that Karla is all better now and ready to become a caring and responsible member of society. Trust me when I say that no one feels worse about what happened than she does.

Thanks for the factual input on my K.H. post. Like yourself, I can write/type a +2 post any day of the week. The K.H. post is designed to piss people off. It's facetious and sly. The net result is that people like you and satchel and others called "bullshit". In the process a lot of people are being forced to examine their position and beliefs. I'll come out with an explanation like this on the post when the time comes. In the meantime, let the others learn more about who Karla is and what she did. That's the best I can do for now. In 1976, Louise Fletcher received an Academy Award for best actress in the movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". The award was for her role as Nurse Ratched. I remember her acceptance speech as if it were yesterday. She said quite simply, "I don't know when I've enjoyed being hated more." My post was designed to invoke hatred and I must say that you guys came through with flying colors. If this post has made even a few more people aware that a potentially very dangerous person is about to be released from prison in the area of Montreal, Quebec, Canada -- then it was a success.
P.S. Some things are more important than ratings.

I saw that rating, and I am surprised you posted this. I don't post much on Uber and am anxiously awaiting my first scathing -2.
I suspect that if you had argued the law and order issue: that she has a valid plea bargain, the importance of plea bargain process to the justice system, etc, you may have seen a different result. Forgiveness though ...
Forgiving Homolka is not something anybody but a saint could pull off. She has done too many horrific things, and the fact is, she did what she did to Tammy well before she was married and in Paul's direct control.
I have to say I think the plea bargain should stand. There was a point in 1994(1995?) when they could have reneged on the deal, but they didn't and it's a done deal.

The same way I would like this story on every front page and in every Letter to the Editor section, on TV and radio broadcasts, short-wave and every other form of communication.
