When I was younger, I was in a progressive metal band called 'Aceldama'. For those of you not familiar with that word, 'aceldama' is the field near Jerusalem in which Judas committed suicide after his betrayal of Jesus - another name for 'potter's field'. (We needed a band name, and thumbing through the dictionary in search of one produced this gem, which not only was four syllables, a-la 'Metallica', but started with an 'A', meaning I could satisfy my laziness tendencies by not having to thumb through the entire dictionary.
Essentially, our modus operandi was to play as fast and heavy as we could in an effort to expunge the aggression of youth...meaning, in short, we never got the chicks.
This weekend I dug through the old cassette tapes and digitized a couple of our make-shift recordings, which were done when I was 17 on what I believe was a Sony boombox - state of the art recording technology. The quality is understandably pretty crappy, but you can see what we were going for. We never really had a singer in those days because, for one, it was impossible to sing and play this stuff at the same time. Just playing the songs was a workout that required massive amounts of concentration - not unlike trying to shit when you've been constipated for three days.
There are a lot more recordings somewhere, but I couldn't find them, which is a shame because they were my favorites. I might try to dig them out and force them down your throats some other time...

I also got around to finishing up some more studio tracks. They are listed below. The first one was written by my bass player. It's a pretty weird style that fans of Mr. Bungle might find interesting. The second is an instrumental that I pretty much just improvised. (That is not a guitar in the second track, it's a keyboard believe it or not.)

Oh, by the way, the song in the last link, as I said in the post, is NOT a guitar. It's a keyboard.

GLALL: That 'pedal' is an all-tube Peavey Classic with el-84s through a Marshall 4x12 with Celestion Greenbacks.
In what way is it 'cheesy'? Be specific. I'm trying to grapple what you're saying, but you're not really giving me much tangible information. Is the sound too 'scooped'?

I think you are a good musician ETS. You definitely have some interesting ideas, but i'll be upront and honest from one guitarist to the other. Your distortion sounds cheesy in the newer stuff, i'd recommend either bringing it down a notch, or drop whatever pedal you're using to get that sound. I think some of this stuff would sound good with maybe a delay/reverb combo. This is just my opinion.

Nice, i like the 1st 2. You guys still together or jam every now and then?
------------------
THe bass player from that band is my current bassist. He wrote the third song on this post. As for the other two, the drummer is now my brother-in-law and the guitarist jams in another band with him. They are recording in my studio too doing another metal project.
I don't jam with them anymore, although they are still close friends.

Her face looks to much like her fathers already. You wouldn't want to bang here and be constantly reminded of her father now would you?
Nice songs btw.

Well, I've listened to the first 60 seconds of each of the first two and find that
A-yes it takes you back to the old school metal
B-reminds me why old school metal annoys the fuck out of me... long ass boring as fuck intros.
C-+1 for doing your own thing and having the balls to post it.
D-really don't have a d.

Without sounding like a cunt, those of us that are familiar with the word know that "Aceldama" was A potters field. It translates as "field of blood."
