If I had to rank just Star Wars movies, I'd go:
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Attack of the Clones
5. Phantom Menace
ESB is my favorite because the plot is left unresolved, you first meet Lando Calrissian, you find out the secret of Darth Vader, you first see Yoda, Hoth, Cloud City, and Boba Fett, and there aren't any Ewoks or the devil spawn Jar Jar Binks. "A New Hope" is the most classical one piece hero story, probably because Lucas wasn't sure if there was going to be a second movie, but I prefer the darker tone behind Empire.

How can anyone possibly rate "A Phantom Menace" above "Return of the Jedi", or even "The Empire Strikes Back"? In my opinion, the ratings of Star Wars movies goes like this:
1. Return of the Jedi (Best movie)
2. A New Hope (Best scene, Luke destroying death star)
3. The Empire Strikes Back (2nd Best scene, "I AM your father.")
The other movies just don't have the same feeling. I think it's because of that stupid character, Jar-Jar Binks, and the fact that only about 1/60 of any of those movies is live action, and not CGI.
