Ever since I left the city, I've been spending a lot more time in the wilderness. You see, there is a large wooded area located just a few yards from my back door, which happens to be connected to my room. I go out there all the time when I need to escape. There's a beautiful creek out there, and many, many different animals. It's something I really enjoy, which is strange, because for a significant part of my life I had very little access to nature's beauty.

As a child, I was able to escape in my imagination, with the help of David the Gnome. There were no creeks or wooded areas in my old neighborhood so David the Gnome was my only hope. David the Gnome was a TV show, and if any of you remember it as well as I do, you know that it was very unique and ethical, unlike many of the cartoons you may see on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network today.

The show was about a Gnome named David, who lived in harmony with the nature around him. He, his wife, and their two children lived in cozy confines inside a tree. David made his living by caring for injured or sick animals, who were able to communicate with him telepathically when they were in danger. To find them, he whistled for his friend Swift, a neighborhood fox that kindly allowed David to sit on him while he took him wherever he desired.

A wonderful show that I can barely remember, since the last time I saw it was roughly ten years ago.

But I do remember that it taught me to respect nature; to live in harmony with it when possible, like David and his family. And it wasn't until I moved here about a year and a half ago that I was able to demonstrate my willingness to cooperate with Mother Nature. It was very rewarding. Being out in nature is makes you appreciate its beauty, especially if you spent a majority of your life away from it. And I owe it all to David the Gnome.

And now, the beautiful opening theme to the show.

Look around you
there are many things to see,
that some would say
could never be.
These things I know
it's true and I will tell you so.
They are there to see,
if you believe.
Trolls and wizards and fairy kings,
birds that talk and fish that sing.
And if your heart is true,
then you will find them, too.
In every wish and dream and happy home,
you will find a kingdom of
the Gnoooomes.

(Note: I concur, the fairy kings part is a little shaky, but it's really a solid theme)

No shit, Sherlock. Do I need to really need to read anymore?
