"Suicide Bomber Kills 23"- That was the headline on my newspaper yesterday. I blinked, sniffed, and turned the page to see what movies were playing. The only thing I wondered was if the kill count included the bomber. I wish I could tell you that I was sick of hearing about killings. But that would be a lie; to tell you the truth I'm bored of them. The bombings, raids, abductions, and mass murders are all starting to bleed together. I can't tell one serial killer from the other anymore. I read a headline that declared 23 people were completely gone from this earth and I didn't even bat an eye. Half the kids I know saw a happy terrorist saw the head off another human being in the name of God. No one talks about it now, but for a week it was all you heard about. I wonder if those kids still remember it, or if they have nightmares. That is a real lose-lose situation:

"It is so sad that those people are so desensitized that they can see something like that and not have nightmares every night"

"It is so sad that those people now have to live with that memory and have nightmares every night. I wish they could just forget it."

You hear a lot of bullshit about lazy, greedy Americans and crazy killer Arabs, and you hear people whine, "Where are we going as a society?" That isn't the question. The question is "where are we going as a species?" The answer is simple-no where. We are at the same place we have always been and will always be. The only difference is that we are better at killing each other. Do you think the Indians could tell one scalping from the next? Could the Mayans tell one sacrifice from another? Could the peasants tell the crusades apart? "How many times have we killed the heathens now?" I doubt the Nazis noticed one batch of Jews in the oven from the next 1,000 Jews in the oven. The tortures, genocides, and wars all bleed together in to the great human comedy; and nothing ever changes.

My goldfish died today, I took him out of the tank and flushed him down the toilet. The goldfish took more of my time, energy, and thoughts than 23 (24?) people did. I'm not complaining, or pointing fingers at the human race. It's OK really. None of it affects me; I get by just fine every single day. I just thought it should be pointed out. I hate the people that ask "What is wrong with the world today?" They are the dumbest mother fuckers alive. The answer is that nothing is wrong; this is how it is supposed to be. It is really so simple.

In case you were wondering, when I turned the page I found out that The Amityville Horror was playing at the dollar theater. That information affected me far more than any suicide bombing ever has. I'm pretty sure the same is true for you.

Know what you mean. Unless it says 23 Americans, or other white people, were killed, I really don't care. I'm not a racist or anything, I just don't care for some reason. Okay, I know the reason, it's that I hate camel jockies. Okay. There. I said it.

Wow dude, thanx for clearing that up for me. I feel so silly now for getting upset when those muslim dudes hacked some other dude's head off. Shit, that's just the way the way they are - how dumb of me to expect more of them - or you.

I forgot how much af a soul you must have, I bet you cried a little and said a prayer when you saw the headline about the bombing. I wish I were as righteous as you.

First of all, excellent topic. This deserves nothing short of a +2. Which brings me to part 2, why anyone would give this topic a -2. Sure, I can understand how people can have differences in opinion, but did they give this topic a -2 because it's funny to see others fail? Or is it because chances are, there's nothing good about that critic's own writing? It's disappointing really.

What this topic said was nothing short of "correct." Not politically correct, only "correct." You see, he pointed out the fact that due to the constant labor put into way of killing people, we've grown used to death, which is not... right... but at the same time, it doesn't affect you. All he said in this topic is that he's not sure if we should be concerned or not. In my opinion, yes. I could sit here and rant about our mongrol president, who I believe is the core of this problem, all I wanted, but really, it won't do any good. I doubt that we'll ever get to the point in society ever again where we don't have an un-cannibalistic outlook on death. Are we cannibals? No. Do we treat death like such? Absolutely.

By the way, I heard Amityville Horror was really good. I hope to see it soon. :)

I'm glad I never saw the beheading.

I liked this post, I agree to an extent. "What is wrong with the world today?" is shortsighted, it has always been this way, however that doesn't mean it should always be that way in the future. Mankind, species, society- whatever you wanna refer to man as, we should be heading in a direction where we're not killing each other or the planet.

An idealistic viewpoint- yes, but if you believe in evolution then you should believe that whether through the violence, as a result of the violence, or maybe even nothing to do with the violence that is likely the way we are headed.

Yeah, I know how you feel, even about the goldfish. I found out my brother's angelfish died the other day and I spent a couple minutes thinking about how great that fucker was. I dont read past the carbombing titles - ever.

You can get as upset as you want about these guys lopping peoples' heads off, but it's just what they do. If there were no bad people, there wouldnt be good people. everybody has a purpose in this world. The guy who sank the Titanic taught us not to drive boats into big blocks of ice... These guys just show us what we ought not to be.

Apathy is what makes my world go round.

I was driving home and passed a crash sight. I saw it, was like "oh wow. I wonder what happened there?" Putting in my Lacuna Coil CD was more important to me than a car being totalled and a semi being flipped six miles from home. Of course, the pants I bought today are comfy too. That matters also.

Also and too are synonyms. Fun. I am repetetive without sounding so.

I think your sense of apathy is a little too extreme, but I can definitely see where you are coming from.
