Tony Alvarez slumped morosely at the bar, watching a baseball game while nursing the remains of a beer. Someone moved to the seat next to him and ordered two. Alvarez turned when the new arrival slid a bottle in front of him.
"Hey, Tony," said Tom Mephisto. "Can we talk?"
"Oh, fuck. No, no, no. Fuck no." Alvarez shook his head blearily and waved a hand at Mephisto. "Look, hermano, you lucky I'm too drunk to fuckin' bust your ass right now."
"Whoa, whoa. What'd I do? It's not my fault Frankell turned Benedict."
Valinas turned on his stool to stare at Mephisto. "Oh yeah? I saw the trial. Fuckin' everyone did."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You trashed us, man! You said you was undercover the whole time! What the fuck, I'm supposed to believe now that you just wanna talk?"
Mephisto sighed and shook his head. "Look, Tony, fuck you. You think I wanted to spend twenty years in Federal custody? I was lying my ass off, and you know it. If I was still a cop, you and Juan would be at the station by now. I tracked you to here, didn't I?"
"Fine. The fuck you want, then?"
"I want to talk to Valinas."
Valinas stared as Alvarez walked into his apartment with Mephisto in tow. "Tom, you better have a good reason for coming here."
"All right, Juan, I'll cut to the chase. You know I got discharged from the force, right? I want to form a new organization."
"Yeah? Go right ahead. You don't need me."
"Look, I'll just come out and say it. I do need you. You picked up all of Leonard's tricks, and you know the money business better than anyone else in this town. I know you still have contact with most of his old organization, and I promise you I can set up enough contacts to make it more lucrative than you could ever imagine."
Valinas sighed. "OK, Tom. Have a seat there for a sec. Me and Tony have to think about this some."
"Whatever, guys. Have fun now."
Mephisto lounged back in one of Valinas' chairs and watched the end of the baseball game while the two men went into another room. He listened to the sounds of their voices ebb and rise with their passion, and wondered what they would decide.
Just as the game finished, Alvarez and Valinas came back into the room.
"OK," said Valinas. "We'll do it. You know what you're doing, so we can rely on that, and you're trustworthy. For now."
"Yeah," said Alvarez, leaning toward Mephisto. "But I fuckin' swear to God, you double-cross us and someday they gonna find your body, and it won't be pretty. Get it?"
"Jesus Christ, Tony. Lay off a guy, OK? Look, we can't be partners in this if we can't trust each other."
He stood and offered his hand to Alvarez, who shook it. Valinas then did the same, although with visible reluctance.
Mephisto smiled brightly. "Super. Now that that's out of the way, we can get down to more important stuff, like figuring out how, exactly, we're going to make this whole thing work like it should."
Valinas motioned for Alvarez to sit down, then did so himself. He leaned forward.
"OK," he said. "Let's hear your plan."

No idea. I'm writing 'em one at a time. Looking at my outline, though, I'm through about 1/4 page. There's like 4 pages of it. Therefore, this series will probably be pretty damn long.

Hey everybody, Spedmonkey told me the plot to this story so I'm going to reveal to all of you.
Tom Mephisto and Alvarez and Valinas start devil worshipping cult but Mephisto turns out to be a chick dressed up as a guy and everything really was a setup, but then Alvarez and Valinas turn out to be monkeys and they kill Mephisto.
