This is personal, and on a serious, sad note, so if you aren't in the mood for any of those things, this isn't a read for you. I'd probably skip over it myself unless I were already feeling like shit.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/11/nyregion/11toglia.html

Dear Annie,

I'm trying to understand why you didn't let me know that you were sick again and I don't know if I ever will. I'm angry with myself for not figuring it out when my calls and email messages were never returned. I'm angry that I didn't try harder.

I don't think I'll ever say, "no news is good news" again.

I never got to say goodbye. I never got to thank you - for what I learned from you, for your belief in me when you asked me to illustrate your book, for your kept promises, but mostly for your friendship - for loving me. I took for granted that you'd always be here, and that was stupid and I'm more sorry than I can stand, because I knew that your physical strength was so dwarfed by that of your personality, beliefs, your hope and your tireless enthusiasm. Maybe I was afraid to hear from you at all, because I knew deep down that it could always be, "that call."

I wanted to tell you how proud I was and always will be of you. As sick as you could become, you rode a roller coaster of highs and lows, needles and tests, waiting rooms and worrying... and you fought harder than I've seen anyone fight. You fought to reach out and share what you learned to help others and without the luxury of time you won. You were a groundbreaker and a visionary - a truly amazing example of what the human spirit can accomplish.

You will live on in each of the hearts of those who loved you, and those you have and will continue to help heal and encourage by example of your own triumphs and incredible suffering you endured without complaint. Your life, although ended too soon, was not lived in vain, but extraordinarily.

I will miss you for the rest of my life Annie, and thank you for letting me be a part of yours.

------------------------

Hope is the thing...

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

- Emily Dickinson

Since you have the biggest cock, you fuck my tits first, then I do yours. K?

holy shit
i didn't know fat tony could be funny, too.

not a bad post, but breast cancer is getting way too much attention seeing as it's *not* the leading cause of death among women.

Jesus christ this hit home. My stomach's in knots. I lost my dearest friend, Anne, in 2003. She gave up her job and sold her home in 2001 to go travelling. All of her friends thought that she'd gone crazy. I think she just wanted to live like she would've done as a youth, if she hadn't been forced to grow old before her time. She settled in Ireland a year or so later and only had a few months there before she passed away.

I'm angry that I didn't get to say goodbye. Still, it's a blessing to have people like that share a part of thier lives with you. We can be content in the fact that we had that much, at least.

It's a shame when love ones leave us, seriously.

It's also a shame to attach a ranking to how users feel about your friend.

_________________________________________________________________________

Why don't you write a post on the proper use of rankings so you can show us the right way to do it. You seem to use yours as a politcal message, rather than actually critiquing the quality of the post.

It is always hard to lose someone who inspires you.

Just remember the love you shared and the passion that she showed could exist in a person.

Sorry for your loss.

Well written.
A touching memorial to one who was clearly a wonderful woman.
I always feel a certain pang for cancer victims - I've lost a couple of grandparents to it and another is a survivor of it.
...
But what really hit harder than all that - this woman was born the same year as my parents.
Just made it hit home a little harder I guess.

Thanks c1ndy,

I'm definately not seeking sympathy, actually, I was torn about posting this topic at all, - the reason I did though, was because I wanted to pay my respects in any way I could, and letting as many people know about her and her work seemed like a way, and it was definitely theraputic for me to write down how I felt, because I wasn't notified of her death until it was too late to attend services. Sux.
