Here are my reasons why I find Xanga bad:
* The Xanga Theory
o Syndicate Amazon.com products with referral links and offer them as a "feature" called Xangazon. ($$$)
o Place more ads to "keep Xanga free" ($$$)
o Offer features commonplace in other journal systems as part of premium service (minimal image hosting, customization).
o A community structured off friends subscribing to each other, hence "locking them in", not allowing them to stay with there friends unless they stick with their product.
o Create an environment where users can beleive that the staff isn't money hungry and instead, cares deeply about their users.
* The Community
o Filled with a userbase consisting of mostly teenagers, therefore, for the most part the users are fairly ignorant and naive.
o Too many asians*
* Feature(less)
o No RSS Feeds
o Privacy measures are limited (no IP blocking, no username tracing)
o No statistics (visitors, referrers, etc)
o Theme-making relied completely on the community, Xanga (even though they are getting your money) will make you use themes and styles created by other members for no charge.
o Inability to integrate server side coding (which means users will rely primarily on the use of javascript in conjunction with other websites).
o Free users have no WYSIWYG, little image hosting (3 avatars, 100kb max), ads (amazon and banners), limited customization, inability to do specific site searches, a limit to the amount of users a person can block, being pestered to "upgrade to xanga premium" or "give the gift of xanga premium" to others.
* Pardon the racism, I don't really mind asians, in moderation.

There is a solid page of ok writing with -2s. That is stupid. I am weeding it all out by giving every one of them a +2; that way posts that have -1.67 with 120+ reviews gets worst ever.
