Steve Martin is lying in bed next to Bernadette Peters when he begins talking about their relationship. He's basically describing what the past few weeks have felt like.

I just googled 'The Jerk the first day seemed like...' so that I could find the whole quote and BAM! This was the second link down.
Do you have any idea how much I love this movie? I mean, it's seriously the best comedy that ever was.
