I know I stated here --> http://www.ubersite.com/m/59836 <-- that I'd felt betrayed by the NHL and that I wouldn't attend another game as long as I live. I'd like to respectfully and politely retract that comment and beg to whoever runs these god awful collective bargaining talks -- Gary Bettman, Bob Goodenow, Trevor Linden, Tie Domi....whatever -- to come to some sort of agreement so the fans of this wonderful sport can have something to watch again. Any agreement. I'll pay an extra dollar per ticket. I'll come an hour earlier to the games. I'll shampoo Eric Lindros' balding head as his career goes further and further down the toilet. I'll polish Wayne Gretzky's trophies....which should take me no less than 89 hours to complete. You get my point. The lengths I am personally willing to go to get this sport back on track are very far and great.

And I know there are other outlets to entertain me: The IHL, college hockey, ECHL, etc, but it's just not the same. Attending a college hockey game in lieu of the NHL is similar to a mother telling a child, "No Johnny, we won't be going to Chuck E Cheese's, but hey, here's a lollipop instead. Happy Birthday. Now go get a job and make me a sandwich, bitch.......What? Don't you take that tone with me you disrespectful asshole. JUST like your father you are. Tell you what, give me that fucking lollipop now. You can't have it. <<smacks Johnny>> That's right. You see what happens when you talk back to me? Now go get mommy's dildo out of her top dresser drawer and let's play 'special places' again." That's how I feel.

At this exact moment, there should be hordes of people at Continental Airlines Arena surrounding Marty Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils as they hoist the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in franchise history. Marty should be making strong headway to break Patrick Roy's all-time win mark. Brett Hull should be closing in on 800 career goals. Jaromir Jagr should be growing his perfect mullet back. Barry Melrose should be making horribly inaccurate predictions while wearing the snazziest suits known to man. Peter Forsberg should be further cementing his status as one of the all-time greats. Pavel Bure should be sitting out yet another year while still collecting $10M from the New York Rangers. The Tampa Bay Lightning should have fallen back down to earth and realize that they are, in fact, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Should.

This SHOULD all be happening. And this is why I detest what this league, and every other professional sports league, has now become in America: A Corporation. Let me first say that I am all for capitalism. I love it. It puts food on my table and will one day pay for my calf implants. But hockey is a game. When you boil it down, it is just a game that many people around the world have come to love and cherish. And a bunch of guys in navy Armani suits are ruining it.

This just sucks.

I loved watching the QMJHL this year. Sidney Crosby is gonna be the best thing to happen to hockey since Mario Lemieux. Oilers fans should be very excited by Marc-Antoine Pouliot. He'd have been one of the leagues most dynamic players, even if he wasn't on the same line as Crosby. Also, Blue Jackets fans should take note that Alexandre Picard did really well with Lewiston this season. He could be a future battery-mate with Rick Nash, who, last I saw, was kicking some serious ass in a Swiss league.

The AHL has sufficiantly satiated me. Mmmm, first place Monarchs. Stars of tommorow and such. Easy access to the players. Rehab assignments (thank you, Stevie Heinze and Teddy Donato) playoffs, the third (and last) annual mullet night with Barry Melrose, Billy Ray Sirus and the Hansons. (not the faggy, music playing ones, the Hansons in Slapshot.)

Most memorable hockey moments:

- Was at Gretzky play his first game with the Blues (in Vancouver)
- In attendance for Brett Hull's 80th goal of the 1990-91 season
- In Detroit for a game 5 where Steve Yzerman injured Chris Pronger, knocking him out for an entire season. Happiest moment of my life.
- Saw Grant Fuhr make the greatest save(s) I've ever seen. He was caught out of the net, and a Bruins player (I think it was Czerkawski) had the puck on the other side of the net. Let a hard wrist shot rip, and Fuhr dived across what seemed like half of the rink to deflect the shot to his right, then another Bruins player got the rebound. Let loose another hard shot, and Fuhr was just barely able to deflect it to his side. MacInnis corraled the puck and gave it to Fuhr, who covered it up. The crowd was on its feet for about 3 minutes after the ref blew the whistle.

Roenick is a douche, yes. But a talented douche. He wasn't the best player on NHL 94 - 98 on Sega for no reason.

And another thing....I love Jerome Iginla. That guy is a 100% class-act. Not only that, he's one of, if not THE, best player in the game right now. He scores buckets of goals, dishes out assists, he's a great captain, and he fights like madman. AND he contributes to the Calgary community (or so I hear). Hockey needs more ambassador's like him and less Jagrs, Modanos, Bures, and Roenicks.

I like how everyone here is sharing their favourite hockey moments and saying that their team would've won the cup this year, but everyone knows that Calgary would've taken it all the way.

Too bad we didn't play Philly in the Finals last season, that would've been CLASSIC hockey. Iginla vs Primeau. I get a boner just thinking about it.

Did anyone hear Roenick's remarks about fans who think the players are selfish? What a twat.. that's what today's hockey is missing, players with CLASS. It's sad to see that the elders are guys like Jagr and Roenick who would sacrifice any part of the game just to make a buck. Fuckin' makes me sick.

My favorite team, before the Leafs, used to be the Blues (I'm from STL), until they started sucking and the management still portrayed the team as championship-caliber. That showed me a huge lack of respect for their fans, and it pissed me off so bad that I abandoned ship. It's premeir player, the grossly over-rated Chris Pronger. In an interview sometime during the winter (when he should have been playing hockey) he, in not so many words, said something to the effect of "I'm willing to hold out as long as it takes in order to keep my 8-figure salary. Way to kill your sport, douche! Yeah, the sport that afforded you the luxury of a $10 million salary.

Oh, and before anyone accuses me of bandwagon hopping, fuck off. I didn't choose the Leafs because I thought they'd win. I chose them because my favorite hockey player is Mats Sundin. Been a fan since his days in Quebec. I chose the Leafs bacause of Sundin, and as soon as I became one of their fans, they went out and got some of the dirtiest cheap-shot douche bags in the game (Bryan Marchment, Ed Belfour, and Darcy Tucker) and there are rumors of the Leafs going after Pronger once the lockout is resolved. Ugh! It's a miracle I'm not a Red Wings fan.

The players are about to sign a new CBA with a salary cap of approx $34 million. They were offered the same deal with the cap at $42 million back in February. Truth be told, the players got their asses kicked and they should lynch Goodenow for mismanaging the whole sorry affair.

I had to deduct 1 for the Devils reference. They are my sworn enemies. Flyers rule!

fudge - after the Devils won their 2nd cup a few years ago a friend of a friend of a friend was one of the equipment guys. He got the cup for a day and I got to go to his house and drink champagne out of it, awesome. I was in such awe as I stepped up to it.

BTW, we are probably not supposed to communicate, you and I, being Flyers (me) and Devils (you) fans.

my best / most memorable hockey moments:

-Attending game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals in 1995 when the Devils swept the heavily favored Red Wings to win their first cup in franchise history. Truly an amazing experience.
-Meeting Gordie Howe at the 1994 All Star game at Madison Square Garden. That guy is looney, let me tell you. Very cool guy, but looney.
-Atending Game 5 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals and watching Pavel Bure score 2 goals against the Rangers. My dad made me wear a Hartford Whalers hat so that the Ranger fans wouldn't kick my 14 year old (at the time) ass.
-Meeting Eric Lindros, Brett Lindros, Sean Burke, John Vanbiesbrouck, Scott Stevens, and Steve Thomas at hockey camp up in Guelph, Ont.

I mean I understand what the players are doing here, but I will have to take sides with the owners.

It seems pretty simple, the players want to be payed like professional athletes. The problem is that the sport is not popular enough to get the big TV contract...and that's what it takes for the money to come.

I am sure the owners are probably a little crooked, but the bottom line is if nont enough people are paying to see you...you're not going to get paid as much as say the NFL or MLB.

It's a shame because all I want as a fan is to see hockey, but because the owners have no idea how to properly market their sport the players suffer in the area of income, and I suffer because I love hockey...and it's not on.

Awe man now I have a tear in my eye...The Flyers could have just wiped out their 26 or 27 year drought without the cup.

No hockey kills me, although the wife likes the fact that I get stuff done around the house.

Best games/ hockey events that I have been to;

Saw Gretzsky play as a King
2 back to back overtime games Flyers and Penguins just awesome.
I drank champagne from the Stanley Cup
Staying up until 2:36 am watching the Penguins and the Flyers play 5 overtimes of hockey in the playoffs.
Being at an exibition game directly after 9/11 when Bush gave his speech. The country had no idea what to do and everyone wanted to hear from someone that we were going to do something. Bush's speech started between the 2nd and 3rd period, they attempted to turn it off to start the 3rd. The whole crowd boo and was chanting "Leave it on" so they put it back on and the players came out on the benches and watched the news. No 3rd period just alot of nationalism that night.
-----------
thats sweet.

mine:

-First game at the forum, 1985 I think. I was 6 or 7. Montreal beat winnipeg 6-0. we were standing room only and I remember. Someone left for the third period and gave me and my dad the seats. what an atmosphere. I miss that rink.
-Game 4 Stanley cup finals Calgary-Montreal 1989, when Claude Lemieux left the penalty box to kick some more ass.
-Played on the forum ice when i was in peewee and met Jean Beliveau and Larry Robinson.
-1993 all-star game at the forum, to see Bure score twice. (you can see the back of my head on TV.
-last summer's world Cup opener between USA and Canada. the Bell centre, The first period was probably the best hockey I've seen in my life.
-plus other games which i was too drunk to remember

You would have gotten a +2 a few months ago, but I've noticed of late that I really don't miss hockey all that much. That could be because I'm a Blackhawks fan, and they are the worst run team in the league, and their tickets are way too overpriced, and their home games aren't televised, and their owner himself even said winning a Cup is not the most important thing to him and he won't spend to much money to try to get one. *sigh*
