After my first miserable post, I received a piece of advice: post something original/funny/controversial. So this post is likely controversial - unless everyone agrees with me.
First off, a short rant: why must we censor breasts so heavily? We're all aware of the controversy about Janet Jackson's breast, and the horrible consequences the incident had for the media, but at least there was only one breast. Breasts are blurred all over television, but what is really wrong with them?
With that in mind, why are breasts so awful to show on television? I have a BA in art history (yes, it is rather useless) and I'm working on getting my MA in the same field. So I have seen a lot of breasts in my studies, most of which were incredibly beautiful. Consider Titian's Venus of Urbino, or Manet's Olympia: the nudity is what makes the painting.
Here we come to a point of contradiction: why are such artworks so praised, yet live nudity is so admonished? Naked breasts are usually seen in two ways: through art or pornography. Why is one so bad, and the other not?
In art, breasts are beautiful. Sculptors and painters show them in their natural form. In pornography, the breasts are fetishized. They are made huge, pierced, punished. In pornography, breasts are regarded as something secret, revealed in taboo form. This role of breasts in pornography simply reflects society's (and because pornography is intended for a mostly male audience, male society's) attitude towards breasts. They should be covered up, treated as a fetish, and revealed only in private or the "seedy" world of porn.
The message that this sends to our children is to be ashamed of our bodies. Now, while I completely disagree with showing children pornography, what is really wrong with seeing breasts? I mean, they do feed from them. At any rate, young women must be so obsessed with their breasts from this negative, taboo-like treatment of their own bodies.
So, to all you women, I say: be proud of your breasts! Breast are art; don't be ashamed of your body. Teach your daughters to have joy in their looks. And of course - decorate them as you want. Whether your own sculpture of yourself is as nature made you, or you add the finishing touches of tattoos, piercing, or implants, be proud of what you have!

There wouldn't be anything wrong with nudity if maturity weren't such a big issue.
And i hate the fuck out of body modification too. If you like what you have, why change it? And don't give me that "Cause i'd like it more" bullshit. I have trouble believing that people with shit in thier face, for example, find themselves more attractive. I wanted to get my eyebrow peirced when i was in high school cause i thought it would look cool. Not because i thought i needed it there, or because it was going to make me feel more confident in myself at a job interview. Just simply cool. But at the end of the day, i can look in the mirror and be happy with what i see because i simply am. If you're not, you need to figure out why instead of trying to change what you look like.

My mom is a fan of Russel Flint's work; mostly, naked or semi naked ladies in a southern European climate (Italy, Greece... Anywhere hot), lounging or bathing in pools. Without the women it's just a landscape, and a pretty boring one at that.

however, this last line ruined it for me:

i completely agree with 'be proud of what you have'. but if you are proud of what you have why ruin it with implants? it's a bit of a contradiction.
the only reason i noticed something so trivial is because i absolutely abhor implants. or any kind of plastic surgery for that matter.
but back to the point: breasts are not porn. i agree completely.

Boobs are good, and we should not be ashamed of them. They are amazing things. I would not hwever flash my boobs at a child any more then i would my vagina. Breastfeeding is one thing, that baby is not going to remember breastfeeding.
Unless you're that stupid woman that nursed her 6 year old.. but that's another post.

In Australia and a lot of Europe they are quite liberal whith what they allow on TV before the watershed- I think there is no harm in showing boobs at any time but, it's like anything, once you are exposed to something for a long time you have to try harder to shock- in 50 years someone will write a post on uber saying 'why the strange attitude to having sex with donkeys' or something. welcome!

Have you seen MTV or similiar "popular" TV. Breasts would not be shown in an artistic manner. Now let me be clear here, I love porn, but I don't think it should be in a place where children can view it. I think not showing breasts is kind of an arbitrary rule, but without it you would have lot more fights over what is art, and what is smut.

It is the 'give an inch take a mile' mentallity of the human race.
If you make it acceptable to show boobies (huhuh) on tv then the next is young boobies, and then even younger ones.
There is no innocense left in the world, people would use this type of thing for personal gain.
