(as an aside, isn't it odd when people put Sr. in their name? I mean did they legally change their name when they whelped out a kid that they insisted on naming after themselves? I doubt it. Sam runs into this all the time loading clients into their tax system. It makes him nuts.)
Anyway, the "church" has apparently gotten bored with their usual ghey bashing and decided to turn their ire towards the US Military.
Yes indeed, they are now claiming that the soldiers killed in Iraq are dying because god is punishing the US for its wicked homosexual tolerating ways.
Seriously, I thought they were kidding when I heard this but it would seem that they are quite serious.

What, I don't get credit for putting "rev" in quotes? I know that these people are not real Christians. That doesn't change the fact that this is what they call themselves. What the Christian community needs to do is take a stand against this kind of crap.
Jack, you should see it, they really do put on quite a show. We used to have some real whack jobs show up at school preaching to the lunch crowd. There is a pit in the middle of campus that they would take over for the show. We called them pit preachers. It was great sport to hear all the new and fabulous ways we were all going to hell. I recall once being told specifically that I was going to hell for wearing shorts. From time to time, people would start in with them, it was great sport but mostly it was just a shouting contest. They live for that so really, in all honesty the best thing to do is ignore them so they'll go away.

I agree with AndraSidan on this one. I've seen the site before, and it is way out there. You can't bash Christians in general with this one because of the sheer absurdity and complete twisting of the teachings in the Bible by Phelps.
With any ideology, there are those extreme lunatics. You've found a shining example of one.

Those idiots have very little to do with Christianity. To say they are one and the same would be like stating that all socialists are Joseph fucking Stalin. It doesn't take a conservative to figure that one out.
There are extremists in EVERY ideology, religious or not. I don't think anyone would claim that Ted Kennedy is a good representation of the democratic agenda at large. Radicals like Fred Phelps never embody the mainstream beyond the facade used to ensnare individuals. Bash on this church if you want (and I certain have and will), but to associate them with Christianity beyond the cursory would be presumptuous.

Oh yea, I'm a huge fan of Islam. They've always been such an open minded bunch that fully support the idea of equality for women - sure huge fan.
These people were out protesting a UNC-NCState football game. None of us had a clue why but it would seem that both schools actively support the ghey agenda and therefore my possession of a degree from the better of the two schools is enough to condemn me to hell.
Pity too, there are so many better ways to incur the wrath of god don't you think.
I can sympathize forensicgirl3, I live in the south and there are all kinds of crazy folks round these parts that just make a girl proud of her heritage.

Because I live in Kansas City, I have been unfortunate enough to have seen this asshole at work. He likes to come over into Missouri to cause ruckus at concerts, he visits campuses (gets thrown out too), and anywhere else he thinks ungodliness or homosexuality is occuring, which is EVERYWHERE according to him.
His daughter went to law school for one purpose only, to keep him and his congregation out of legal trouble. Seriously. That is the only reason she went.
