So begins the whittling away of the freedoms of the internet. Once upon a time, we would never have believed in the possibility of our freedoms being undermined so rapidly. While the general public sits back and excuses the iron fist ruling them in the name of safety, those of us who care about maintaining our right to not be owned by someone else' opinion are stuck taking yet another blow to our implied rights.
How long will it take for anything considered questionable or offensive to be outlawed? Preposterous though it may sound at the moment, how far away is this website from being outlawed and banned for its offer of freedom of speech and opinion? 10 years ago, I never would have suspected that my right to express myself on such important issues as my opinion of my "leaders" would be an oppressible offense, punishable by the Patriot Act.
I don't have much of a desire to ramble on about this, and I'm too pissed off to be very coherent right now, but what does it say about us as a nation when we willingly sacrifice the rights we claim to be so proud of? Yes, some of the citizens handing off their inherited wealth of freedoms are truly ignorant of their actions, but how many more are just being blindsided by the propaganda? I don't think there is a person left alive that can question the Hitler regime, when our current administration is becoming equally as rampant with the stripping of rights.
It begins here, with a relatively insignificant slap to the face of what the religious find questionable. It will branch outward, and we will continue to allow it. The easiest way to take what you want from people is to allow them to witness it taking place.
I'm moving to Scotland, or another non-extradition country. Fuck you, George Bush, and thanks for taking my American freedoms away from me. Freedom isn't free, you see, it costs the lives of everyone you have killed for oil and silence. Eat cock, Dubya.

Just imagine having to provide documentation every time somebody posted a picture of a breast on here. Gee, that's all about kiddie porn, isn't it? I could have sworn you were all smarter than this, did Ubersite become taken over by the pygmy blowdarting zombie monkeys from Mummy Returns while we were all in Michigan?
Grow the fuck up. Seriously.

I don't thnk most of you are seeing the big picture here. You may not like some of these other sites, but there right to exist is every bit the same as ours. The man is chipping away at the rights of all, not just the poor deluded idiots who truly enjoy that kind of stuff. It's a lot like the Klan martching in the streets, you don't have to like their message, but you do have to stand their bullshit if you want to be able to speak out about something else.
The record keeping is nothing more than a legal disguise to edit content found offensive to the ruling right. They don't give a rats ass about the children. They just want to advance their concervative agenda.
What could come of this for Ubersite? Will Bart have to begin keeping books on all ages and personal information of his users? Will he have to show said books to a regulatory group, in charge of enforcing this law? Demands to view personal information for various posters who they believe could be a problem? An adult warning everytime we log on? The implications of this are huge.
I am a huge advocate of freedom of speech on the internet, be it gross out pictures, insane propaganda, or the occasional post of illegal activities. Just wait people, this is the beginning of the creation of a governmentally regulated internet, where content is judged by those ruling the country. It's a sad day indeed when we continue to give up our rights just to satisfy the moral objections of others.
Thanks, J, for bringing this to our attention.

*yawn* I hate Bush and everything bad that happens is directly related to him in every fashion. Bush is Hitler, we are all going to be brainwashed and lettuce will become currency. Blah blah blah, I'm moving, just like Hollywood, but not really because like them I realize that America is the only place I can hang and if I pick up and move to another country, I'll have nothing to complaine about. *yawn*

Sorry, but I have ZERO sympathy for the shutdown of Rotten and similar sites. I believe in free speech, but not exploitation, and Rotten and similar death/autopsy/gross-out sites practice exploitation of the very worst kind.
An exploited woman or child can speak out.
The dead can't. Someone should try to preserve their dignity.
A medically legit site that someone like forensicgirl13 might visit is one thing. Random pictures of people crushed and broken and displayed for our entertainment is just wrong.

i concur.
and as has been said already, its not like the interent is going to change at all. sites are going to move around, and BAM, right back the way it was.

To both of you, I concur with Toker and confirm Williamson. Apparently, you and Thorpe give lots of American girls hard-ons.
Man, that's just scary.

Why don't these sites have their pages hosted by people outside the US?
----------------------------
That is exactly what is going to happen, that is why the rules for magazines and movies had not been previously extended to the internet.
There is also a legitimate concern about the amount of "amateur" porn on the net of people who didn't know it was going there. It will still be hosted in other countries, so it is a pretty futile gesture, but it isn't going to hurt my ability to find spank material. I am much more concerned about the interpretation of the 5th ammendment than about how many pornographers have to move to the netherlands.

But exploiting the deaths of 9/11 to win re-election is perfectly fine in your book, eh? Because that's exactly what this adminsitration did. If Bush spoke for the families of 9/11, then I must be the next Karl Rove. Sounds like you believe in free speech as long as you agree with what's being said.

http://www.ubersite.com/m/69007
Has anyone threatened to move to another country for reasons unrelated to their commander and chief? Are there people that defected to Canada because they didn't like their Cheerios, or people that hopped the border to Mexico, because they lost on their Lucky 7's scratch ticket?

I defected FROM Canada TO the USA because the TV shows are better.
