Angela caught herself staring again. She couldn't really help it. All her meticulous planning over the past, what, 12 years? It seemed so long ago when she started as a freshman at UCLA. How driven she was.

"It's all about helping people," Angela always responded when inquisitive people asked why she selected her major. She breezed through her undergraduate and graduate work with the clear goal of finding a cure for some disease, any disease!

Now she was cleaning out her office - ahem, cubicle - on her last day of work. She glanced around that cubicle. How many long nights did she spend in there, working for "the global good?" Now she was packing that global good into cardboard boxes and filling out work and password release forms.

In the past two weeks, Angela kept wondering how her youthful enthusiasm had ever-increased into bitter cynicism. When she first started as an intern at an international engineering corporation, doing their biota analysis and analyzing safety precautions, she was energetic and ready to help. Once her internship was up, the department immediately offered her a full-time job. She accepted, even if the work was a bit different than what she thought she would do.

Angela never pictured herself working for an engineering firm. However, now ... today, the shock is even more. Angela sat in disbelief as she would be unemployed at 30. She couldn't find a job in the past two weeks. She was either over-qualified or did not fit the description. Graduate degree, and unemployed.

"I can't help people if I can't even help herself," she thought. The send-off party was yesterday. Everybody was very courteous and nice. But they still have jobs ...

What happened here now? +2 because a good concept, and for your first real good post. You could definitely flesh this out a lot more, though.

Marge, please, old people don't need companionship. They need to be
isolated and studied, so it can be determined what nutrients they have
that might be extracted for our personal use.
