ok, so we all know the wonder twins, Zan and Jayna. it was an old hana-barbera cartoon about two twins who, upon touching rings and proclaiming "wonder twin powers, activate" could then turn in to any form of anything imaginable. once in this form, they can only revert to their normal forms once coming again in contact. interesting idea, yet it got old very quickly...
thats where i come in. we were debating what the crappiest cartoons were, and someone mentioned the wonder twins as being 'pretty bad'. granted, the monkey ate shit, but the premise was good albeit flawed. so we debated how their system worked, and we came up with these questions that could define all of loopholes in their system.
1. Can the Wonder Twins turn into each other? (ie Zan --> Jayna, Jayna --> Zan)
2. Can the Winder Twins turn into themselves? (ie Zan --> Zan, Jayna --> Jayna)
3. In doing either transformation, could the twins retain their transforming abilities?...
although they have already morphed once, they have taken form of something that can morph. so did they lose their powers, or not? in the second case, could Zan turn in to Zan without reverting to Zan, or would Zan have to go back to being Zan before Zan could be Zan? interesting indeed...

It's answered to some degree in the Superfriends comics, which had half-decent writing compared to the TV show. (The Wonder Twins were full members of the team and saved the day as often as not, compared to their near-constant blundering in the show. This is not to be confused with the more recent Young Justice incarnation of the Wonder Twins, who are escaped slaves who don't even have to touch to activate their powers).
Neither can turn into the other (Jayna's not made of water, so Zan can't turn into her; Jayna can't turn into males). Jayna, however, can turn into a human to disguise her otherworldly origins. (In the comics, they had secret identities and went to school. Zan had to settle for wearing his hair over his ears and dying it blond).
Even as a human, however, Jayna retained her transforming ability (becasue, like all the other animals she turned into, it wasn't her real self). She also demonstrated the ability to turn into monsters (she turned into the female counterpart of a mole creature to distract it) and mythical creatures (she became a mermaid - topless, no less!)

They only had limited powers, like that Random Joe said below. So no, it wouldn't work. Zan could only be crappy water-elemental-y stuff, and Jayna could just be animals. Hypothetically, since humans are animals, Jayna could turn into one, but I don't think she could be Zan. She just turns into a typical entity of that species, and a superhero isn't a typical entity.
I shouldn't know that.

last time i saw them was the other night on the justice league cartoon on cartoon network they were a couple of wax dummies in a toy warehouse that everyone was fighting at. it was sorta like old school super friends where all the bad guys and the good guys duked it out for no real reason.

ant, using your concept, couldnt they both turn in to... say, the green lantern, and 'virtually' have his rings powers? like i said, once theyve morphed, they have to revert to morph again. but if theyre morphing in to something with morphing powers, do they get those powers? and if so, then why dont they just always turn in to the green lantern and use his kick ass powers?
and no, despite what the hilarious short cartoon network did with the twins said, zan doesnt have to become a form of water. although, the 'ice bridge without rails' really made me laugh. and the time jayna turned into a big gopher and made a moat around the bear to stop it from mauling the campers, because the bear just stepped over it and killed everything. yea... good times

They don't turn into EXACTLY the thing they turn into. They are a virtual representation of that thing. It's as good as the real thing, but not the real thing.
#1 - Yes they could turn into each other. But they wouldn't lose their distinctness or their power because they would be virtual representations of each other.
#2 - No, they couldn't turn into themselves because that's just fucking stupid. That's like me turning into me. Why would I want to turn into me if I'm ... me?!?!?!
#3 - Yes, because they're not actually that thing, but rather a virtual representation.
That's that. (wipes hands)
Oh, and Shitolatte sucks.

They didn't turn into just anything imaginable - Jayna turned into animals and Zan could only turn into different forms of water. Like, you know, ice.. or.. water. And Seanbaby's Superfriends page is great, I've always wanted to play that drinking game someday.
