Once again, Nickelodeon provides us with a show that we so fondly remember: Rocko's Modern Life.
OVERVIEW: A timid wallaby and his dog Spunky get into all sorts of crazy adventures together.
What made this show so unique was not only the trippy animation, trippy theme song (sung by the B52's in case you were wondering), and often times, trippy plot, but also it's overall cast of characters. Rocko's best friends were a cow that was raised by a family of wolves (Heffer Wolfe) and a neurotic turtle who ends up marrying his dentist (Filburt Shellbach).
At first, I didn't quite know what to make of this show. I mean, the first episode was about grocery shopping. But then again, I was in the third grade when the show first aired, so I was ready to watch anything that at least provided some twisted humor.
I can only describe each and every episode as a combination of fantastic and awesome (awetastome).... with the exception of the Spring Cleaning musical. The best shows are the ones that provide no underlying messages or morals. I'm in the third grade. I don't care about the environment. All I wanna see are eyes bugging out of Rocko's skull, Heffer and Filburt saying "weewee" over and over again to a comatose Mr. Bighead, and Really Really Big Man.
With that said, the rest was nothing short of incredible. From this show came such classic one-liners as:
"Don't step on the black ones..... hot lava......... PINEAPPLES!!"
"Weewee!"
"I am the cheese. I am the best character on this show. I am better than the salami and the bologna combined."
"NAAAAAAAAAKEEEED!!!"
.........
Ok, come on, I was nine. They were funny to me.
PLOT: 9
STYLE: 10
ORIGINALITY: 9
Spring Cleaning Deduction: -1
OVERALL: 9
Watch it for old-time's sake.

I loved the episode that parodied 'The Shining.' It was pure genius.

GAH! I was scrolling up the reviews hoping that no one else had thought of this line first. I've failed. Failed, I tell you!
I love this show almost as much as Ren and Stimpy. Oh, and I remember the theme song changed a time or two and it was disappointing. I only really remember the b52 one, though.

I LOVED Rocko. I'll never forget when Mr. Bighead went over to Rocko's place to ask Fil, Hef and Rocko if they wanted to play a game (bowling). As they answer ("No thanks, we're already playing a game"), you saw a gameboard with a monkey perched on a spinner with a busted ass, and paddles in everyone's hands.
Then there's the time when Rocko was helping Mr. Bighead get over his denial of having a clown fetish:
Fil: It's OK, I have a thing for European undergarments.
Rocko: (with a spaced out look on his face) And personally, I like rainbows.
*utter silence*
Mr. Bighead: Rocko, that's DISGUSTING!!!

Extremely underrated show. It's a shame that it was let go so that the creators could go on to do make millions off of mainstream Spongebob. Not that it isn't a good cartoon but there are so many instances that are clearly trying to appeal to toddlers that it mostly isn't worth watching. RML was a refreshing, beautiful memory.
Ever catch those scenes when Ed and Bev were tossing plates and breaking them with their tongues in sly reference to sex? Golden.

any one remember what phil's fortune cookie said?
wasn't that the one that told him that his life would suck (in a nutshell) and he kept getting the same fortune in every cookie that he opened?

I loved this show.
I remember all kinds of adult references that I didn't understand.
Like references to sex and the Playboy bunnies.
