I don't think I like Mallard Fillmore anymore. I didn't before, actually. But now I super don't like them.

(go to the bottom of this post and read the comic now)

*inhale*

IT'S SATIRE YOU FUCKING TWAT

Ok, there, anger is gone, I can talk for the rest of this post at a reasonable level...

Reasonably more reasonable, though. Still not entirely reasonable.

For those of you who haven't read "America: The Book" (you should) it is a book that is a parody of your typical Civics book. As such, all things inside are presented as if they were true. The foreword by Thomas Jefferson is presented as true. The naked pictures of supreme court justices are presented as real. They're presented as such because if you followed everything with a footnote that said "just to be sure you know, this is fake" ruins comedic timing. Not that I'd expect the author of one of the least funny comic strips in circulation to understand that.

Point is this: No reasonable person who read America: The Book thought anything contained within it was truthful. Anyone smart enought or ead the words was also smart enough to recognize it being satire. Nobody thought that Mallard Fillmore strip was real more than they thought the Doonebury strip was real more than they thought the foreword by Thomas Jefferson was real. It's understood that, just by the fact that the page these comics were features on was preceded by total bullshit, and all pages following it were total bullshit, that the page in question was also total bullshit. No one who isn't a fucking dumbass thought that Mallard Fillmore strip was real. They knew it was fake. They knew it was satire.

So that leaves two possibilities:

1. Bruce Tinsley can't discern truth from satire, and as such should not be allowed to have a nationally syndicated comic strip. THis would make him a dumbass.

2. Bruce Tinsley knew it was satire, but expects his readers to believe anything he says, so if he tells them that The Daily Show had tried to pass them off as real Mallard Fillmore strips, that would undermine his audience's trust in a program that pushes opinions opposite of his. This would make him a prick.

I'm not sure which to believe. He could be a dumbass, he could be a prick, I dunno which is more likely.

Either way, I don't think I like him.

I thought that comic was a bit funny. It makes fun of Dan Rather, not Jon Stewart - and we all know Dan Rather lost his job because he lied to smear Bush. Ironic, to some.

Thats actually kind of funny.

But, on the other hand, my other points I stand by, and this cartoon is just as funny as the fake.

Rad, the fake Mallard Fillmore strip went as such...

Panel one and panel two were Mallard Fillmore talking about something Clinton did, I forget exactly, but the specifics aren't important. Basically he's giving information on some kind of subject.

And the last panel was just: "Ooops! I forgot to make a joke!"

I got that book for Christmas, and read it shortly thereafter- it was the last book I had read which I had not read previously (I read Brave New World again recently).

It's not that I can't read, it's that I won't read!

I wonder what the steward version was. Too bad that was not presented along with this.

Furthermore, your broad generalizations of people who take offense to off color satire is very intolerant. Why is someone who doesn't understand satire automatically a dumbass?

And since when did being a dumbass preclude one's right to a belief system and opinions?

Mallard Fillmore sucks.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is bad ass.

America: The Book is bad ass, as well.

Dan Rather is kinda cool.

America: The Book is absolute comedic genius. It's depiction of Mallard Fillmore is even more dead on after the release of this strip. "Whoops, I forgot to tell a joke!" Mallard Fillmore is one of the lamest comic strips out there, which baffles me since there is plenty of good joke material for conservatives to use against liberals (and vice versa). Why the author of the strip continues to write jokeless pieces is beyond me.

also, the turkeys have the ability to jump 50 feet in a single bound as they chase their natural prey, the three-toed sloth. Give them teeth with laser pointers with crazy patterns like the star of david, and also make sure you have a villain named Chauncy Codforth, who is in the process of building a gun that can shoot bacteria into elementary schools.

I'd go with: "guy who draws talking waterfowl for a living."

Don't think it gets much worse than that.

Make the turkeys talk out of their ass and work at Baby Gap. They also have hunting licenses for bears, and there are undead turkeys that are police officers.

I... take it you like the turkeys...

I'm always wary of doing sequels. All the sequels I've done have sucked.

Where the fuck are the talking turkey hands Spooner? Mallard has been around for ages, he's always been slanted towards a certain political agenda, and Stewart probably won't even bat an eye at this. So dude, find a car, and go drive it to the store. Buy your magic turkey dust, pour it on your computer, and make me some GODAMN TALKING TURKEYS.
