For a 5 year old, glasses are better than kool aid. Every 5 year old wants glasses.
And braces.
And crutches.
There's something about these little handicaps that infatuates us when we're young. In kindergarten and first grade, I used to (as random, painful, strange, and maybe even disgusting as this sounds) put staples or rubber bands on my teeth and pretend like I had braces. Any time another kid would have to use crutches, we always wanted a turn to walk on them. I was jealous when my sister got glasses. Why?
Today, I regret wanting crooked teeth and the means to straighten them.
Today, I regret wanting a broken ankle and the means to walk with it.
Today, I regret wanting vision problems and the means to solve them.
I lied on my first ever vision test.
Can you blame a 6 year old who has always wanted glasses? I've had glasses since the first grade and my prescription is now at a staggering -5.5. Not blind, but I couldn't live without glasses or contacts. My prescription is worse than my dad's. As I type this, my contacts are sticking to my corneas after a full day's use, making my eyes cloud up. What I wouldn't give for a few glasses-free days back. Getting glasses that I didn't need is probably what screwed up my eyes in the first place. I was in such a hurry to be fixed that I ended up breaking myself pretty badly.
Did I mention that the words "eye" and "surgery" in the same sentence make me cringe? Nobody's cutting my eye open. Even if it will make me see better.
I guess that means that I'm stuck shoving slippery little disks under my eyelids every morning for... forever. Thanks a lot, 6 year old Lynne. Stupid bitch.
Now 18 year old Lynne has to squint her cloudy eyes at everything.

Laser eye surgery is great, I highly suggest you get it. You can see immediately afterwards.

Yup, blurry girl = hot.
I'm -1.75 in both eyes. Near-sighted. Definitely enough where I have to wear contacts.

I got teh 20/20, but my wife is in the -7 range for both eyes. Yeah, she can't see jack shit.
She'd kill for eye surgery though, but her eyes are still changing, so they won't let her. Boy, that's gotta suck, huh?

I used to want braces too, when I was in about the 3rd grade. A lot of my friends had them and I thought they looked cool.

I wasn't this bad 2 years ago when I last got checked. Things are likely to have changed by now. Welcome to the "Blind as a bat" club!

You look hot. In a blurry kind of way.
If the words eye and surgery in the same sentence make you cringe, then what if a doctor said to another doctor: "You really have an eye for surgery." Would that make you cringe? huh?
I don't know. I'm tired. That was stupid.
Seriously, though, I would do you, bad vision or not.
It would be like doing a blind chick.
What would that be like?
hmmmmm....

In grade three I was excited to be getting glasses (the HUGEST ones ever made, I'm assuming), and proudly showed all my friends and teachers.
I'm now 18 and up to -6.something in both eyes.
I feel your pain.

I have this thing where I wonder to myself ideas like "I wonder what it would be like if I couldn't use my arm" or "I wonder what it's like to not be able to see" "or be arrested" then inevitably something comes along and helps me to experience these things.
Now I try to wonder about "what would it be like if I could see through walls/ could go on tour/ become Jeremy Irons' understudy" but those never seem to come to fruition.
