Authors note: This is a true story based on a certain period in my life. The place, Straight Inc. is a real place easily found through a Google search. Since my leaving it has been shut down, in all of it's locations with countless pending law suits. I write this, not because I seek sympathy as it was 15 years ago, but because this weekend I travel to my famiy reunion to see My father, the antagonist of my story here. It is our first meeting, his family and mine since these events and I am still sorting through all of this. I will continue this story, not everyday of my stay but I will touch hi and low points. Thank you in advance for reading.

Straight Day 1:
The date was December 21st 1990, I was fifteen and not yet a badass. Although in my mind I was, I was hard until I got there.
It started as an overnight trip, my father and I. We were headed to Texas to visit his upcoming construction project. We would fly down, he and I alone. Away from his wife and my step siblings, together maybe we could talk, maybe start working some stuff out.
My father was a Project Manager for a national construction company so our trip seemed par for the course. We were picked up by two men at the airport in Dallas, both wearing sports jackets and jeans, again par for the course.
While driving the conversation bounced from sports, to weather, to families, and what not. I was 15 so in my rebellious state I really paid not attention. We were taken to what appeared to be your everyday run of the mill business office. Upon entering the building I started to pick up on things that didn't make sense.
The people working behind the reception desk, kids, maybe 16 or 17 and a few of them were a little older. This seemed odd but was not enough to really send red lights and warnings off in my head.
A man came out and took us to his office, Ken Robertson was his name. *Note - I have not intention of changing names to protect the innocent because....well fuck them. Ken took us to his office and sat us down.
My father: First off Jason has no idea why we are here.
Ken: *nodding
Me: *thinking, what the fuck is he talking about, we are here for him. Beginning to notice Child Psychology diplomas on the wall.* What're you talking about dad?
Ken: Jason your father has brought you here because he has concerns for you, for your health and safety, and the safety of his family.
Me: Wait, who are you, dad what's going on here?
My Father: *looking away sheepishly
Ken: Jason, this is Straight Incorporated, we are an in house rehabilitation center. You are being admitted to our program and will be staying with us for a minimum of 6 months.
Me: Dad, what is he talking about, I thought this was about your job. *Stands up* I'm not staying, I don't know what you guys are talking about. *Stands and makes his way through door and starts down the hallway
Ken: Jason don't make this harder on your father, he is only trying to do what is best for you. *Pressing intercom* Phyllis could you send a little help our way, please?
Me: That's it I am out of here *now in a slow trot down the hallway*
Wham! Dizziness. I was hit by an opening door. Three men now have their hands on me and Ken is making his way down the hallway.
Me: *having lost my ability to reason within this struggling* Get your fucking hands off me! Dad...dad help me, why are you letting them do this to me?
Ken: Jason just calm down the more you resist the worse it will be.
Me: Fuck you asshole, get the fuck off me.
At this point I am tiring, I am quickly losing my struggle against 4 full grown men. There is one man one each limb of my body, applying all of their weight on me. I felt more powerless at this point in my life than I had ever felt. Imagine, if you will struggling to move with all you have in you, not understanding why or where you are, and these men forcing their will upon you. All the while my dad stood there, watching and not helping. Why wouldn't he help me? Doesn't parental instinct come into play at some point? Didn't he feel a need to help me, I can't imagine seeing my child in pain, under duress from another and not doing something.
My dad left me that day, saying two words as he walked bye me in my helpless state.
My Father: I'm sorry.
For six years that was our last exchange, his cold words and my tears.
I would spend the rest of that night crying, questioning, but mostly crying. I had no idea where I was, what I was in for or when I could go home.
Many of my questions would be answered in the days to come, but for this day my punishment was ignorance.

No matter how much of a hardass you may have been, 15 is still a child emotionally in this country. And the worst thing you can do to a child is have a trusted family member leave them in an isolated place, with strangers, and no explination as to why

To those that want more: It is a 5 phase program, you can get off the first phase in 14 days. I spent 121 days there and never got off the first phase, so there is plenty to tell...in due time.
