You know, if you actually fucking remember the election, it all came down to Florida. Besides, Gore won the popular vote. And the Republican's pre-election tactics (denying voting rights to people who have commited crimes [that is legal under Florida legislature, apparently], people related to those who have commited crimes, or those with a similar NAME as those who have commited crimes, and so on) sealed the fate of the nation before the election took place.
Tiff, I don't mind if you're a Republican. I know I am. But you're one of the stubborn and stupid ones that reminds us all how much we hate Republicans. I'm not saying I'm not, but I KNOW that we took the election from Gore. And that knowledge gives me something to gloat about.

We would have to import different varities of Latin women though; we might tire of the cubanitas.
Actually, Castro is one of the most protected men on the planet. He has survived well over 650 verified assasination attempts and holds a guiness record for this. I think I read that 60- something were state sanctioned by USA (cia most likely)

Some states in USA have given back/don't restrict convicted felon's rights to vote.
Florida's Re-Enfranchised Felons May Not Help Dems in '04
(CNSNews.com) - Florida is about to restore voting privileges to some 30,000 convicted felons as part of a lawsuit settlement. Even though the last presidential election in 2000 was so close and the high percentage of black felons could become Democratic voters, the measure may not dim President Bush's chances next year or change the outcome of the next election.
http://www.townhall.com/news/politics/200307/POL20030728a.shtml
and this:
The overall results of the disenfranchisement of ex-felons in Florida have been catastrophic. Currently, there are approximately 525,000 ex-felons in Florida who have completed their sentences and supervision requirements, but have been denied the right to vote. That figure represents one-third of all disenfranchised ex-felons in the United States.
One particularly troubling aspect of state laws that disenfranchise ex-felons, the ACLU said, is their impact on black men. In Florida, 31 percent of adult black males cannot vote as a result of felony disenfranchisement, almost three times greater than percentage of black males disenfranchised nationwide.

None of the news give a darn what you think, and you can just forget this dream of impeachment. It ain't gonna happen. By the way, can you write the republican party a $100,000 check? No? Then go away. You're bugging me.

"I don't think that it's up to us to tell them they're a convicted felon," Rosado said. "If he's on our rolls, we make a notation on there. If they show up at a polling place, we'll say, 'Wait a minute, you're a convicted felon, you can't vote. Nine out of 10 times when we repeat that to the person, they say 'Thank you' and walk away. They don't put up arguments."
I know if I was being accused of being a felon and told that I wasn't aloud to vote I would have more to say then 'Thank you'
"On Friday, the Miami Herald reported that after researching voter records in 12 Florida counties -- but primarily in Palm Beach and Duval counties, which didn't use the file -- it found that more than 445 felons had apparently cast ballots in the presidential election."

But what is 100% right when done by a computer? There is always room for error. But I'm not saying that we should just accept it either. I think they need to come up with a better way to find out if someone is a felon or not.

Oh yeah, and all the really cool people who live there (hiya, 80% of Uber...).
Anyway, listen up:
i. If you got a parking ticket in Florida you were a "felon" and couldn't vote. Conveniently most felons were black Gore voters. Weird.
ii. This "chad" thing. Christ, they didn't even empty the machines. It was physically impossible to push the little thing through because the back of the machine was full of old dimples or whatever the hell you call them.
iii. Bush. Fuck me, this man is frightening. Really, I'm astonished nobody has had a go at shooting the man yet. I say this with the utmost seriousness: the most powerful man in the world is a moron. If he worked in a shop he'd take a real long time counting your change. If something cost £9.05 and you gave him £10.05 (*after* he'd rung up £10 and looked at the display to see you were due 95p back) to save you getting a whole load of change back, he'd stare into the till trying to work it out. Er, and who's the governor of Florida again? Weird. Again.

Tiff, you make it sound as though these things just happen. But you failed to mention the database company that created the scrub lists in the first place.
ChoicePoint, the creator of the database that created these scrub lists, is run entirely by republicans, such as Ken Langone, Howard Safir, Vin Weber, and Rick Rozar. Also, ChoicePoint, merged with DBT Online, worked with a conservative organization called Voter Integrity Inc. They campaigned in parallel with the Republican Party against the 1993 motor voter law that resulted in a nationwide increase in voter registration of 7 million, much of it among minority voters.
According to this article, 7000 people were INCORRECTLY taken from the rosters. The number of black people barred from voting was disproportionately high. I couldn't find anything to the effect that the majority of the people on the scrub lists were felons. Where did you get that from?
Tiff, you've left us with the impression that the people on these lists had all the opportunity in the world to appeal their removal from the rosters. Again, you picked and chose only select, tiny portions from the article.
**"I don't think that it's up to us to tell them they're a convicted felon," Rosado said. "If he's on our rolls, we make a notation on there. If they show up at a polling place, we'll say, 'Wait a minute, you're a convicted felon, you can't vote.**
And...
**Many Orange County voters never got the chance to appeal in any form. Condrun noted that about one-third of the letters, which the county sent out by regular mail, were returned to the office marked undeliverable. She attributed the high rate of incorrect addresses to the age of the information sent by DBT, some of which was close to 20 years old, she said.**
Mistakes happen, Tiff. People screw up. But this wasn't a screwup. This was very, very deliberate.
I will, as you suggest, vote for one of the fucktard Democrats. But that's not at all the point. The reason I keep flogging this issue is that I'd like to be reasonably certain that my vote will actually be counted. "These things just happen" is a horrible and nihilistic attitude. It mocks the very idea of a democracy.

"Tiff, I'm a lil' bit confused as to how that Salon article helps your case.
The first article is distraction. While I will be happy to directly answer any of your questions later, let's stick to this specific case for now."
Okay okay so the first one was a disraction. You didn't think that I would let the Republicans take all the harp for voter fraud did you? And yes that article is from the 2002 elections. The second article shows though, if you read more then the one page, that there were more people found as felons then not. The voter fraud is going to keep happening no matter what. The people there have come to the conclusion that the "scrub lists" aren't always right, but they have to abide by them, so says the government of Florida. So I guess what I am trying to say is that it did happen in the 2000 elections, but it also happened in most the years before and will happen in the years to come so long as they have the "scrub list" going around. There is nothing that you can do about it now, so face the fact that Bush won and Gore didn't. If you don't like him then vote for one of the fucktard Demos that are running this year. They aren't going to win, but at least then you can say that you didn't vote for Bush.

$12,000 paid to person in voter fraud probe
By AP and Journal Staff
The South Dakota Democratic Party reportedly paid the person at the center of a voter fraud investigation more than $12,000 in the last three months.
http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2002/10/18/news/local/news03.txt
All 3,258 county residents who were identified as possible felons on the central voter file sent by the state in June were sent a certified letter informing them that their voting rights were in jeopardy. Of that number, 551 appealed their status, and 245 of those appeals were successful. Some had been convicted of a misdemeanor and not a felony, others were felons who had had their rights restored and others were simply cases of mistaken identity.
An additional 279 were not close matches with names on the county's own voter rolls and were not notified. Of the 3,258 names on the original list, therefore, the county concluded that more than 15 percent were in error. If that ratio held statewide, no fewer than 7,000 voters were incorrectly targeted for removal from voting rosters.

There's a couple for you to start reading. Gladly I am going home from work now.

actually, Yiff, you are wrong - ot perhaps you're right if you consider alot to mean two out of the 53 elected. Only two us presidents won by electoral vote having lost the popular vote, they are:
In 1876, Samuel J. Tilden won 51% of the popular vote, while Rutherford B. Hayes captured 48%. However, Hayes won 185 electoral votes, while Tilden got 184. A special electoral commission picked Hayes to be president.
In 1888, Benjamin Harrison became president by winning 233 electoral votes, even though he received only 47.8% of the popular vote. His opponent, Grover Cleveland, garnered 48.6% of the popular vote, yet received only 168 electoral votes.

A comment which, of course, ignores the fact that thousands of black people were removed from the voting rosters (by a conservative think tank) because they MIGHT have been criminals, or their names or birthdays were SIMILAR to criminals. Why are conservatives (except Tiff - she promised she would address this issue) so terrified of this fact that they must pretend it doesn't even exist?
This issue is not a minor technicality. IT IS OUTRIGHT, STRAIGHTFORWARD, AND UNEQUIVOCAL VOTER FRAUD. If the democrats had removed thousands of republican voters from the rosters, conservatives would have simultaneously given birth to herds of cows. They would never have let the issue die, AND THEY WOULD HAVE HAD THE RIGHT TO, FOR THE ENTIRE REST OF THE PRESIDENCY!!!
By the way, I don't recall anybody claiming voter fraud during either of Clinton's elections.

Fraudulent "felon" purge will aid Jeb on Nov. 5th
from Jeb Bush's secret weapon, Greg Palast, Salon.com premium
"...even though the list has been widely condemned -- the company that created it admits probable errors -- the same voter scrub list, with more than 94,000 names on it, is still in operation in Florida. Moreover, DBT Online, which generated the disastrously flawed list, reports that if it followed strict criteria to eliminate those errors, only 3,000 names would remain -- and a whopping 91,000 people would have their voting rights restored..."
http://www.fringefolk.com/PCflorida.html
"Indeed, the Florida Bush administration launched a computerized pre-election attack on black voters by purging alleged felons from voter rolls. Many of those targeted were not felons at all, but merely suspected Democratsand known African-Americans."
http://www.columbusalive.com/2001/20010719/071901/07190104.html
The first witness was Richard Haywood, who shed light on the Bush administration's efforts to purge tens of thousands of African-Americans, Hispanics and poor people from the state's voting rolls by excluding alleged felons. Florida is one of 11 states that disenfranchise all convicted felons for life, and 525,000 Floridians, who have completed their sentences and supervision, cannot legally vote. Counting both inmates and ex-inmates, 24 percent of Florida's voting-age black males are denied the franchise.........."The company, however, could not say whether the remaining 4,000 people were genuine felons, or ultimately had their voting rights restored. The Bush administration left it up to each county to determine whether the deleted voters were indeed felons. Some counties, in turn, placed the onus on individuals to prove they had been mistakenly disenfranchised."
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2000/dec2000/flor-d13.shtml
It also turns out that many of the blacks whose names were mysteriously disqualified were not purged accidentally. As Gregory Palast reported in the internet magazine Salon.com, Republican officials hired ChoicePoint, an outside vendor with Republican ties, to cleanse the rolls of felons - but at least 8,000 names, disproportionately minority, were improperly deleted.
http://www.commondreams.org/views/121000-101.htm
I could go on and on. The fact is that the republicans fucked up bad. This is FACT. do some research and see for yourself.

Oh and let's not forget, Bush is responsible for the massive global warming epidemic. I bet he was around back during the Triassic Period, spraying aerosol cans gleefully, and screaming "Look at me, I'm causing Global Warming!" After all, the Earth was a lot warmer then than it is now. Plus, I'm betting Bush set off a massive nuclear device around the end of the Cretaceous, causing a massive ice age.
He is also responsible for the massive pollution in Houston, because he put all the oil refineries right there in that area and also rendered it impractical for masses of Houstonians to take public transit to work instead of individual transportation. Right. In fact, Texas' pollution problems have nothing to do with the fact that they're are so many chemical plants there, it's all UU's fault. Morons.

I don't have time to read all the responses, so I'll just say this...
If you want a fair election, get rid of the electoral college. It's old, outdated, and it just plain doesn't work in today's world.
The popular vote should win. What difference does it make how many people live in what region? Judging by the popular vote is far more accurate and fair. It forces candidates to campaign to everyone, not just the larger states holding more electoral votes.
Excerpt from the Chicago Sun-Times
Monday, November 12, 2001
Gore Could have one with Statewide Recount
"Gore outpolled Bush by 540,000 votes nationwide, but the presidency is decided in the Electoral College. Each candidate desperaely needed Florida to win and, at the end of an agonizing election night, Bush held a slim lead. "Count all the votes" soon became a Democratic rallying cry; Gore's legal strategy, however, was to pursue a narrower recount.
At first, Gore's attorneys sought a hand recount of all 1.8 million ballots cast in four predominanatly Democratic counties. In the following weeks, his team argued for recounts in various other counties.
The Florida Supreme Court ordered a statewide recount of undervotes Dec. 8--seemingly a huge Gore victory. But it was stopped the next day by the U.S. Supreme Court and the legal action returned to state courts.
A pivotal moment came Nov. 26, when florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris--saying she was following state law--certified Bush the winner by 537 votes, accepting results from two of the four counties that had proceeded with Gore's recount request.
On Dec. 13, the closest presidential contest in decades finally ended 36 days after Election Day after a 5-4 vote by the U.S. Supreme Court that allowed Harris' certification to stand. gore accepted the verdict and, with that, Bush won florida's 25 electoral votes and the presidency.
Gore never did press in court for a full recount, and the strategy he followed to seek the undervotes alone statewide lokely would not have benefitted him. When the consortium tabulations tried to re-create the partial recounts Gore did pursue, those two scenarious kept Bush ahead."
In my book, Bush is the real president, even though I wanted Gore. It does no good crying about it. You want a fair election, write Congress and lobby for the abolishment of the Electoral College.
Otherwise, fuck off and find something worthwhile to do with your life, like cleaning my toilet.

And as for the comment about 70 degree winters, come down to texas... I saw a few day's in dec/jan where it was close to the 80's. I could have walked around most of the winter with shorts!

You are definitly talking out of your ass
Yes seasons change and the temperature differences right now may have nothing to do with global warming (well they do but for the sake of arguing I'll entertain the possibility that they don't)
There is however proof that the Ozone is being destroyed at alarming rates and do you people honestly think that all the pollution realeased by cars and factories is some how not effecting the enviroment in any way?
Now dont get me wrong, I don't give a shit if the enviroment goes to hell in 50 years, which it will at this rate, cause it's going to be your kids and grandchildren dying, personally I don't like kids. But don't sit there and tell me that global warming isnt real and that Bush has any care in the world for the enviroment

I dunno when its roughly 70 degrees in December Id call it global warming...
Id also call it global cooling when its 50 degrees in June...
But then again noone ever thought of the possibility that the seasons are changing? That in a few thousand more years that December will be as hot as June is now?
Im pretty sure we arent completely accurate in the revolution of the earth when we say it takes 365.25 days to make it around the sun and 24 hours to revolve a day... Those seconds have to be going somewhere... I believe that eventually (Im talkin thousands of years) summer time will be in the fall then in the winter then in the summer again... Itll take a long ass time but its gonna happen... Just look how long it sometimes takes for warm weather hit in the summer... Same with the winter. It seems like it take a lil longer for it to get cold in the spring and winter...
Its just a thought... Maybe Im talking out my ass...

Oh god no, is she really in Texas? Shit I'm in NC and I know more about Texas politics than you do. It's called a paper, sometimes if you pay for a subscription a nice man will throw one on the lawn each day. This will clear up most of what ails you:
1. get ready for work
2. make coffee and put bagel into toaster or otherwise begin breakfast preparation process
3. walk out to lawn
4. pick up paper
5. put coffee into coffee mug and breakfast food item onto plate
6. carry coffee, food, and paper to the table
7. open paper and skim headlines whilst drinking coffee and eating breakfast food item
8. when interesting headline catches your eye, read little black words directly under said headline
then come back here and try this again

Once again fucktard dubbya did not WIN the election unless these "rules" of which you speak include voter intimidation and outright fraud. It had jack shit to do with hanging chads or the electoral college. I have YET to see one solid shred of evidence to dispute my claims on this post: http://www.ubersite.com/cgi-bin/message_get.cgi?message=1056479175914113686
and Tiff, I said "documented facts from a reliable news source" not Bush family propaganda.
Anyone want to explain to me why they had this cut from the EPA's report on greenhouse gas report: "Climate change has global consequences for human health and the environment."
Here is an example of a "reliable news source" http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/19/tech/main559380.shtml

also also, someone commented about 5 million posts ago about bush killing sooo many more people than clinton... maybe it was cuz clinton was a pussy and wouldnt start a war for any reason cuz it would make some people in the country upset.
lastly... i hear everyone bashing bush. and while i dont agree with everything he does, i wonder... if everyone hates him... why is he gonna get re-elected?

And around and around and around it goes, where it stops, who the fuck knows?
*As usual, an overwhelming array of documentation (or at the very least, a Noah's flood of circumstantial, but true, evidence) is shown that the 2000 election was fraudulent.
The rebuttal is that old people in Florida are stupid.
*Weapons of mass destruction are never found
The rebuttal is that the war was never about weapons of mass destruction.
*A comprehensive list of quotes from the Bush administration proving otherwise is immediately provided.
The rebuttal is that liberals are pro-Saddam, pro-dictatorship, and pro-tyrrany.
*Americans express alarm at the clear and rapid evaporation of civil liberties.
What are you talking about? They didn't say anything about that on CNN.
*Americans express alarm at the consolidation of the nation's media.
What are you talking about? They didn't say anything about that on CNN.
*Bush is gutting all of the environmental protection laws, and is allowing the speeding up processes that cause global warming.
The rebuttal is that global warming is a myth.
*Americans express alarm that the tax cuts favor only the richest 1%.
That's class warfare.
*The tax cuts have annihilated a stunning array of social services.
Well, we aren't commies, are we? Besides, who wants to be a welfare state?
*Conservative are reminded that the U.S. is one of the largest welfare states of all the industrialized nations for major corporations (think tax cuts, bailouts, and pork).
The rebuttal is that they provide jobs.
*But every year, more factories are being moved to sweatshops in countries with absolutely no labor protection laws.
The rebuttal is that at least we're providing those workers with jobs.
*Bush snorted cocaine, lied about it, and increased the severity of punishments for drug use. He also lied about his previous problem with alcohol.
The rebuttal is that that's personal and besides, he was a kid. Cut him some slack.
*He was thirty years old!!!
Well, at least he wasn't a pot-smoking draft dodger like Clinton.
*Bush dodged the Viet Nam draft and went AWOL from the Air National Guard.
(Uh, I haven't heard a rebuttal for this one).
*Bush is clearly a moron and semi-illiterate.
That's what you think. He's just pretending to be a total fucktard so that you keep underestimating him. He's a genious.
*For all his deception, cronyism, destruction of the constitution, and contempt for the environment, Bush should be impeached.
The rebuttal is that this is providing aid and comfort to the enemy.
So...tired.

I don't know of too many things the president has actually done for our country. He made a few widdows, he took many lifes with the whole afganistan war, and iraqi war. He may have helped other countries out a hell of a lot. I know he is doing a damn good job at pissing money away into other countries that could have been poured into our national debt... which would have went to other countries anyway but still.
