The entire world plays soccer (or football, or whatever), and the Americans have always, well, sucked ass at it. Until now.

The United States' Men's soccer team is currently #6 in FIFA's rankings, ahead of:
7. France
8(t). England
8(t). Spain
10. Portugal
11. Germany

Oh, I know that that FIFA rankings can be very skewed, and that its not always a good gauge of a team's likely overall performance in the cup, but still - we've never made it this far. I spent years growing up with American teams that barely deserved to be ranked at all, and certainly not in the top 50 or 100, so goddammit, I'm going to enjoy it.
And I would agree, England does look strong this year, but I think its going to be Germany this time around - they've got a couple of weak spots, but they've been playing extremely well.

*I've set up camp on this post.
I'm not pissed off that the US are above us in these rankings due to 90% (ish) of the US not caring at all about the sport and I don't mind the US team at all. Scotland however, would wank over this forever and their team would have no chance in beating the US ever, let alone England.
Plus, for the first time ever, I'm quite confident England can win the world cup. Got a better squad than we've had for a while.

It's not the first time the US have been ranked higher than England.
It happens all the time, the Czech republic were ranked at number 2 for a while recently and whilst they have a really good team they aren't actually as good as the stats indicate.
The rankings are based on last 7 games played in a year with the highest scoring matches taking precedent, this includes friendlies and regional competitions.
So you see European teams climb the rankings during the European Championship years and South American teams doing the same during the Copa America etc.
If you don't play for a while you sink down the ranking table.
The US have been in or around the top 10 for the last decade.
Boring but true.

I read this yesterday and immediately realised an Uber post was on it's way. I'm not going to -2 it but the rankings really don't prove much more than how well you've done in recent games. USA don't have much competition out there other than Mexico. Trinidad or Canada suck. Greece are European champs and lie at 19th and Czech Republic...are fourth. Above Italy and England which is retarded.
Still, I hope "sworkerr" continues to grow in the US. Would be good to have some big Yank clubs on the globe.

go canada # 84!!! yessssss we're ahead of countries like Haiti, Albania and Burkina Faso...wherever that is.
The US will be #1 eventually because they've got a genetic dream team of soccer/ football players. They have immigrants from every country in the world, they'll get the Brazilians as strikers, english and midfielders and french as defenders (oh wait, they can't do much defending of anything) lets say germans for defenders. In goal will be a big tall greek or italian guy with long hair. That's how most good teams are put together aren't they?
Canada could, on a smaller scale, be the same way.

Holy shit! I can't believe that the US is finally catching up. I mean I new that the US eventually would, seeing as how popula it's getting there, but I didn't expect them to overtake Britian, France or Germany. The rest of the world just can't get a break.
