Some of you may remember my earlier post about the United States soccer team - http://www.ubersite.com/m/71280 .
It's time for an update - after a tough game (in which neither team played particularly well, granted), the United States pulled out a win and are heading to the CONCACAF finals to play against against Panama.
There were more substitutions based on injury than I have ever seen, and the US coach, Bruce Arena, managed to get red carded and sent out of the game, but a win is a win, and we're going to the finals.
We're no longer the special ed team. Woo!

Well, actually, at the time I wrote this, the US was ranked #6, which you have to admit is pretty close to the top five, yes? Pretty damn close, I'd say.
And yes, the sport is properly called football, hooray. However, there can sometimes be confusion as to what sport is being referenced when you say "football", but there's no mistake when you say "soccer".
Besides, I'm in the States, and in this country it's called soccer. We also drive on the right side of the road and spell color without a "u". Get used to it.

So our soccer team is winning and our basketball team barely medals...what's going on.

Look at the type of people playing for our teams in each sports and it becomes painfully obvious why one team is good and the other is awful.
I still say we invade the countries ranked 1-4 so we have the top-ranked soccer team in the world by default.

Er, the US is nowhere near the top 5 footballing countries and, oh yes, STOP CALLING IT SOCCER!

Ha - thanks, I appreciate it - if only I could get my girlfriend to scream my name like a Mexican soccer announcer. I've been trying for years, and failing to do so is my greatest regret.

It gets no respect because games that last for an hour and a half and end with the score at 1-0. My God, my ADD gets ADD if I try to watch a whole game.

I have finally found the words to describe how I feel about soccer! I must have been absent the day the NAVY taught us this.

Exactly - its the direct opposite of rugby (truly, the world's greatest game), which is "A hooligan's sport, played by gentleman."

Eh. The only thing I'm worried about, hits-wise, is getting the word about the team out there.
