Now that it has been established that the man armed cops shot while fleeing was not connected to the terrorists that detonated the bombs in London, prissy Euro-politicians have started bitching about how armed cops killed an innocent man and how tragic this is. But let's try to look at it from the cop's point of view. Those cops are out there working day and night to protect the populace from attacks. They stop a man who left a house under observation for possibly being connected to the attacks. As they challange him, he bolts away and runs into a subway wearing a large overcoat, no more than two weeks after the bombings in London. The cop makes the decision and empties five rounds into the back of this man's head while he is running.
Now the Euro-politicians are complaining that this happened and describing it as a tragedy. I feel the cop should be cited for his brilliant marksmanship and for making the right decision. Do you want those cops to hesitate to kill a man under those circumstances? The only person to make a mistake was the man who ran. This man is no more innocent than if I would be if were to put on a large overcoat and bolt through a security checkpoint or drive a car through a Baghdad checkpoint.

That's very true. I remember the other day whilst driving to work I saw what may have been an asian man emerge left onto a main road without signaling. Fortunatly a police riot van was able to run him of the road and a couple of bobbies gave him a kicking outside the Jet garage so it was ok.
I don't know about you but it makes me feel good to know that 23 year old David Barry, born in Dudley and a regular fan of 'Who Want's to be a Millionaire?' has the power to dispense instant justice and has a liscence to kill.

They did not shoot him in the back as he was running, they tackled him to the ground and shot him in the head so that he could not detonate any bombs he might be carrying.

I would, however, like to point out the fact that were an Israeli soldier/policeman to do the same thing here, the entire fucking world would be all over them for "murdering innocent Palestinians for no reason." Yes, that includes you, Brits. Don't try to deny it.

I agree. Under the circumstances the cops did the right thing. They cant read minds, and the bigger tragedy would have been for this man to be another bomber.

Look at it from the man's point of view. You're stopped by a bunch of men, in plain clothes, waving guns and claiming they're police. You've done nothing wrong. I'd be pissing myself, and i'd probably have legged it too.

AndyD, the possibility of a bombing gives the policeman some merit too.

What a bunch of dumbasses. The guy ran from plain clothed cops with guns. Even if they were in uniform they shouldn't have shot him; they weren't however which is a pretty decent explanation for him running from them.
They should be repremanded for breaking procedure and shooting an unarmed civilian 5 times in the head.

The point isn't that they had to 'sacrifice the individual just to be safe.' It was that they freaking told him to halt and he didn't, and considering that there were wires sticking out of his jacket, I think they had fair reason.
