There has to be a point at which you say, I don't believe in Organized Religion anymore, but I don't know when that point was. I know that my mother soured me on it from a young age with her Bible thumping, Answerless Baptist bull crap that caused me to miss out on participating in the 3rd grade school play because she didn't know what the hell "dancing" around the Maypole was. The stupid part is, she said I couldn't participate because there was "Dancing" involved, NOT because it's actually a pagen ritual dating back to Pre-Christian Druid practices.
Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that raising children in a strict religious atmosphere will, more often than not, sour them on the very idea of God and Religion, not bring them closer to it. You see, children raised in such atmospheres learn far too much about the Bible. The more you know... The more you question. The more you question religion and the Bible the less sense it makes.
For example... never mind. I'd just end up with a bunch of bible thumpers quoting scripture to prove I'm wrong and they're right. God, I hate that. I know the Bible as well as any preacher, and I can quote just as many scriptures as you can to prove YOU wrong. Don't pull that crap with me. I'm not in the mood for the Mary-go-round. It's tiresome and boring.
Which brings me to the next thing I hate. People who suddenly get religion then try to shove it down your throat. Like they weren't screwing their girlfriend's best friend and throwing up on the bathroom floor stinking like Jack and Jim and using GD every other word just three months ago. Now, they've got religion. They "know" God. And by God, they're going to tell you all about it. For some odd reason these people seem to think if they just tell you--over and over and over-- what a horrible sinner, no-good piece of dung you for NOT being like them and how you're going to hell you'll suddenly fall down on your knees and think them for saving your miserable existance. Personally I'm more likely to punch them in the face for insulting me. And they still keep ringing my door bell for the opportunity to tell me I'm a piece of shit who's going to hell.
And don't get me started on how people use religion as an excuse to start wars and how some people use it as an excuse to blow up innocent babies. Or murder six million people (see the middle ages), most of them women, cause a bunch of stick up the ass men didn't want women to have any power or respect. Women healers?! Blasphemy! Name them Witch and Burn them at the stake! A woman dares to show an ankle or speak to an infidel! Chop off her head! (no organized religion is innocent of this collective "Lets Kill Everyone Who Doesn't Agree With us" mentality...except maybe Buddism and is that organized?)
Now before anyone jumps down my throat, I believe in God. I try to be a good person and eat my Wheaties and not run over old people with my car--no matter how slow they move leaving the Wal-Mart. But this Religion thing has gone too far, by God. I say it should be outlawed. If you want to wear a robe from head to toe, that's your choice. If you want to believe dancing is sinful, don't dance.
In other words, Believe what you want, but by God, leave me out of it. Don't shove your beliefs down my throat. Don't quote scripture to me. Don't threaten to blow me up because I chose not to pray the way you do. And do not, under any circumstances, ring my God damned door bell. (

And by the way, God says He's coming down here to kick everyone's collective ass for using His name to bother, annoy, harass, imprison, torture and blow up innocent people. Oooh, you're in trouble now!

I share your beliefs (well not about the old people thing, YOU WALK SLOWING INFRONT OF ME, EXPECT TO BE THROWN BEHIND ME). However i still pass on the holy leaflets i get given. I find it scares people to think you are majorly religious. I likeie the fear in their eyes.
