Since my Grandmother passed on Friday I have been doing a lot of thinking about her and what she meant to me. I will remember everything she taught me but the thing that sticks out the most is her love of football and more specifically the Buffalo Bills. She never missed a game. I think if she ever met Scott Norwood she would have kicked him in the nuts and said, "That's how you kick the ball, nancy boy." That is what made my Gram great.
My most vivid football related story takes me back to 1989, I was about 7 years old and had not developed my love of the Buffalo Bills, and this was a problem. Instead being the punk I was I rooted for whoever the Bills happened to be playing. After the Bengal's beat the Bills in the AFC Championship game I decided they would be "my team",*see below*. The week before the Super Bowl my parents went on vacation and had Gram watch us. This was my opportunity to get a few shots in at her and her beloved Bills.
I spent the day before she came making signs proclaiming the Bengal's greatness and the Bills obvious deficiencies. I covered the entire house in this propaganda and waited for her to arrive. When she got there she looked around in horror but bit her tongue obviously not wanting offend her little grandson.
When I got home from school the next day I noticed the signs were all taken down. When I walked in the living room I saw my Gram had carefully arranged them all in the fireplace.
"No Grandson of mine is going to be a bandwagon jumper."
Then she set them all on fire.
While watching the game I fell asleep and the Bengal's were ahead. I was woken up by my Gram yelling after the 49ers scored a TD with 20 seconds left.
That is why I love my Gram. Not even her 7 year old grandsons "love" of a football team could make her change her ways.
*This may look like blatant bandwagon jumping but due to this I am still to this day a die-hard Bengal's fan. I suffered through the 90's and early 00's so I don't want to hear it. I am also a Bills fan which hasn't been a problem because both of them have stunk. This season they should both be good which may cause me to kill myself on Dec. 24th if they are both in the playoff hunt.*

Good luck with Henry, I have Bills season tickets and although he is a talented runner, he fumbles way too much. He also seems to fumble more if there is more on the line but he was also very understanding last season so I hope the best for him, unless he plays the Bills.
