Childhood was a magical time. It was a time of innocence...a time of solace in the unconditional love of family. It was a time when forgiveness was second nature, and when anything seemed possible; treating people as you wanted to be treated was easier done than said.
Somewhere along the line we grew up. We lost sight of the little things that mattered most; we lost sight of where we really come from and how beautiful and simple everything can be from toddling eyes.
Pretty soon, all the magic leaves, little by little, and what we are left with is a void that is easily filled with the bitterness and apathy for all that we once loved.
I remember a time when I used to cross the road from my first childhood home to visit this old couple, Mr. and Mrs. Fox. My mom told me not to ask for things when I was over there, but they always offered them anyway. I never had to ask. I know they loved me.
Mr. Fox had a cuckoo clock on the wall. I was always fascinated with it. I remember he took it down once to show me how it worked. Mrs. Fox would bring me apples and cookies and even if I didn't like the cookies I always said I did so I didn't hurt her feelings.
My mom said I should always say 'please' and 'thank you' and look both ways before I crossed the road. I always did. I was a sweet boy then. My mom never misses an opportunity to remind me of that.
One day when I was about 4, Mr. Fox died in the night. I still went to see Mrs. Fox. I don't know what a boy of 4 would have found there to hold his interest, but I still went. I guess I just loved them.
Inside even the most callous, frigid, adult soul lives an innocent child that brought his or her mommy flowers off the lawn, that found it easier to smile than frown, that found it easy to say 'I love you' even to strangers. Inside all of us is the memory of that time. If we could just recapture it every now and then, maybe we could live in a little bit better world.

I want to make a directory of childhood photos of all the members of uber - all that want to participate, that is.
I'd like to not only include a picture, but I'd also like you to send me about 100 to 200 words describing a childhood memory that has stuck with you forever. It can be happy, sad, whatever.
With all the bickering we do - it's like we're an extended family sometimes - I think it would be nice to get a different perspective on each other.

My childhood memory: Starting a "Sherlock Holmes Club" that held meetings in my back shed and never solved anything. Me and my neighbours couldn't find any mysteries. I still have stationery with the Sherlock Holmes Club "logo" on it that we printed off at my dad's work.

I'm not going to post this for maybe a couple weeks because I know everyone will have a hard time finding their pictures. Most of our parents have them and shit.
If you can't find a scanner, just do like Darko did and take a pic of the pic in good light at a slight angle to avoid reflections. Don't do like Filthy did and have her pic turn out looking like her baby doll's head had exploded in a white cloud of 'fuck off and don't take my picture' death because of a stray reflection.

I can't remember anything before 10-11 years old. I had a psycologist tell me I was stonewalling some tragic event. I told him it was probably just too much drugs and head trauma and laughed. He didn't think it was funny. I didn't go back.

Strangely enough, I am the same way. I wonder how many people are like that?
I don't SEEM to remember getting molestered by anybody... but then again, I don't remember anything for shit if it didn't happen in the last five years. It actually brings me more emotional agony to contemplate that some mother fucker would have taken advantage of me like that as a kid than it does to simply chalk it up as having a bad sense of memory, and so I'd really just prefer not to find out if there's some trauma in my past. So I've never been to a psychologist about it.
But if I ever did, I'd probably go to one who spelled his title with an H.
Oh well, I guess it will all stay hidden away in my subconscious until one day I flip out and go on a deranged killing spree.
On an entirely unrelated note, does anyone know if Internet satire is submissable in court?

C1ndy: You don't have to write a caption for your picture if you don't want to. It would be nice if you did though. It gives the picture more perspective than just a picture of a person. You feel like you kow someone a little more. It doesn't have to be long and it doesn't even have to have anything to do with your picture. Maybe just a little memory or something like, "When I was little, peanut butter was my favorite food. Now it's steak."
But again, it's not a requirement or anything. This is just for fun anyway.

Poloroid makes an adapter for their cameras in order to take snapshots of documents and other pictures. I'm sure if you got your hands on one it would work with your digital camera.
Either that, or fork out the $30 for a scanner you cheap ass.
