Lyric-wise, music will always be the same, drugs, sex and violence. Politics, romance and current events. While some things seem more detailed, the same things were sung about years past.
The internet really is making things fucked up. See today we can download whatever we want. who needs to buy an album when we can listen to the single online. I think that because of this growing rate on the internet, and the ability to make your own compilation of music.
A young person growing up 30 years ago, for instance, would have been exposed to all the tracks on an album like Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. If that same person were growing up today, they would have the option of picking and choosing the tracks they want to listen to.
A lot of artist remix, or bring about old songs and mix them with today's styles. Grey Album by DJ Danger Mouse is an good example of what could be expected. The record is a so-called "mash-up" meaning that it combines elements from two other recordings already in circulation The Grey album is in reality. The Beatles' White Album and The Black Album by rapper Jay-Z.
This is more just an attention grabber and done by DJ's, however this may become a style in it's self to a point of art. If this is true, less people with vocal talent will be around and not paid as much as today.
No matter what you can expect unique sounds and more computer enhancement. Oldies will be things played off a "CD" and while I am sure our present music will not be classified as "oldies" it will lose its popularity, and we will be in our rocking chairs listening to 50 cent, Green Day, and Garth brooks.
