Janet Reynolds had never liked her only son. She could never admit it, of course, not even to her self. But inside she knew it; it was expressed in all of her actions, like any piece of truth that is ever denied.
For his whole life, Mark Reynolds had been taught by his parents that all virtue came from kindness, and that kindness was self-justifying. He made his mother more and more ecstatic as she learned how extremely intelligent he was.
When he was seven, his sister was born. Six months later, their parents were divorced. He didn't know why. While this was taking place, Mark noticed that neither of his parents was being very kind to the other at all. He wondered why, but couldn't figure it out; all he knew was that kindness was good, and so all other analysis was impossible.
During Grade Five, the school officially confirmed that Mark had some sort of psychological problem. Which one it was, well, his mother soon forgot - aren't they all the same?
No, Mark seemed far too anti-social to be a good person. Intelligence is irrelevant when some one is immoral. This hidden idea of his mother's always defined how she reacted to his questions, his arguments. There was no possible reasoning. Mark eventually became much more anti-social, and began doing worse in school.
People in general didn't seem to him to be very kind - why? Blank out.
Then there was that day when he was 17.
It was on this day that Mark left and disappeared. Almost nothing was gone from his room. There was a thunderstorm the next night, and he still wasn't back. His mother didn't know what to do, was afraid for him, and his sister was afraid for herself in his absence, as though he was the kind of person who could fight lightening.
Janet Reynolds and her daughter sat on the couch at 8pm that spring evening, with the power out, with nothing to do. Janet was staring into nothingness; she did nothing else the whole evening, except for a point every ten minuets or so when her daughter decided to ask a question that couldn't be answered.
Both were really afraid to not have him there. There was no tall, strong male to act as a symbol of protection. This need occurred to her the most vital when the doors opened behind her mysteriously and a tall figure walked in.
'Let's get started,' said an expressionless voice that seemed to have abandoned all that can be abandoned.
As a chilling piece of metal entered her throat, the last thing Janet Reynolds ever saw was her son's face above her. If she had had time to think about it, she would have known what Mark was thinking - why should I be kind?

I motion to have scarysmile's rating disregarded for the contest, on the grounds of it not being made based on consideration of the content of the post its self, which would (do the math if you like) change my rating to 1.38.
I need support from 3 others (4 overall, including my self) for this to pass. If any one agrees, comment here, saying that you do agree, while linking to this comment its self, either here, or on an official D-Prime Madness post (such as the one that began Round Two.)

Before I starting wasting time at work on Ubersite, I used to read stories about serial killers on crimelibrary.com (you should check it out - lots of inspiration there). As a result, I have a familiarity about the methods and motives of murderers and serial killers. This was a lot like some of their stories, and entertaining.

At this rate, it seems that it won't be favorable to officially have your rating disregarded (under official DPM rules.)
Maybe I'll motion to have the other guy's... =P
