I saw them clearly. Running away from the building, scurrying in all directions. At first this made no sense to me, even less when I saw that these strange men were carrying guns. What could possibly make them run when they held in their hands something that could destroy or intimidate nearly anyone they came across?
I knew the answer a moment later when the building they had exited from exploded in a shower of glass and flame. I and those around me stood with mouths open at the sight, not believing that we should be witness to such an occurance. We would not bear witness much longer. The men who had rushed from the doomed building turned to those of us standing near it. They raised their guns. In slow motion I realised what they were doing. Fingers pressed on triggers. A storm of metal followed, ripping through the bodies of innocents. Some bodies stayed upright seconds after they were surely dead, held in a macabre dance with the metal thudding into them. Chests exploded, a mess of blood and bone and internal organs, leaking to the ground. Open eyes were flecked with red. Somewhere among all this noise and death and blood I fell to the ground. I am still not sure whether that was in some thought of self preservation, or just my knees collapsing out from under me.
After the initial burst of gunfire, the strange men walked around those lying down, occasionally firing off a single shot into those still obviously breathing and cowering and begging for their lives. I think the shock saved me. Or the blood that was splattered across me, courtesy of a body near mine. Whatever the reason, I was given a fleeting glance in the search for survivors and dismissed as simply dead.
I lay there, not moving or daring to move until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I shut my eyes tight, sure that the men had realised their mistake and returned for me, but instead of the death I felt assured of, I was instead greeted by the disbelieving voice of a young police officer.
I smiled. Somehow, I had survived. Why, I wasn't sure of. But that really wasn't the most important thing.
I was taken back to the police station and asked many questions about what I had seen, what had happened, and most importantly, if I could identify any of the men who had perpetrated this crime. I gave my answers as best I could, but something about the officer in the room with me made me uneasy. I had seen more than my fair share of guns that day, and although his was a simple pistol, the same as every other policeman carried, I was nervous. I wanted to leave.
They let me. I walked onto the streets a free man, and felt as if my life had begun again. I was given another chance, to set things right and become that person I had always wanted to be.
And all it took was the destruction of a building and the death of dozens infront of my eyes. If only everyone could be so lucky.

Just to make it closer. And because it looks better on me if the person I lost to does well.

Ainkara, you're ahead by .3 now, but in the event of a tie, it goes to 'most +2s'
