On hot, dreary Fridays such as today, I like to sit back in my cubicle in midtown Manhattan and either think about my plans for the upcoming weekend or reminisce about my expolits when I was just a young chap. Today is one of those 'looking-back' days.
I thusly googled a few of the people, places, and things (or simply "nouns"...whatever you prefer) for my own viewing pleasure. It took me back, you know? If only for a minute.
And now I wanted to share a few of my childhood memories with you fine people. And since we are mostly all in the same age demographic, I figured this might entertain some of you as you eagerly await the end of your work week.
So I ask you, dear children of the 80's, what brings you back? What comes to mind when you think about your first few post-natal years?

I have a couple of episodes of Teddy Ruxpin on tape somewhere. I think they're the ones where he finds his dad and that one where Grubby gets a girlfriend.
On a side note, does anyone remember that old Star Wars cartoon? The only things I remember about it where that Luke was a little bitch and Han Solo was FAT. No one else remembers this cartoon though and it drives me nuts.

he had thomas the tank engine here too, but we called him thomas the train.

The main things that stick with me from the '80's are: the Reagan presidency, and the hardcore punk scene that was fueled by it; huge, massive, ridiculous hair; torn shirts inspired by "Flashdance"; Polo shirts with popped collars; Madonna wanna-be's; Day-Glo clothing.
I sort of miss the Day-Glo clothing. There were less car-vs.-pedestrian deaths in the '80's than there were at any other time in history.

I have not adapted to today's culture.
In my mind, Ronald Reagan is still President. For anyone who isn't a pot-head, they will know he was a great American and made all Americans proud to be American. (Won 49 states in the 1984 election, bitch.)
I have that Transformers poster up in my room.
I have Thundercats patches on my backpack.
90% of the music on my iPod was created in the 1980s.
I have seen Bruce Springsteen in concert 2 times.
I have also seen Ratt, Warrant, LA Guns, Dokken and Judas Priest in concert.
I love my sunglasses and bandanas.
I own a pair of Adidas sneakers (Run DMC style).
A plaque of the 1986 NY Mets hangs above my desk.
My favorite movies are Indiana Jones, Back To The Future and Ghostbusters, Fletch, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Scarface, Stand By Me, Stripes, Raging Bull.
I own A-Team Season 2 and MacGyver Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD.
I even love 80s porn!

Nothing brings back the 80's to me more than crappy technology. Little electronic games that are 5 times as big and heavy as they need to be. Those crappy watches like in the end of your picture. Pens with digital clocks in the end which seemed like the coolest thing ever at the time...

munkey...i hate to get into politics when i'm in such a jovial mood, so....i won't right now.
But I will just say that Reagan and Bush 1 were BOTH responsible for the economic flourish during the 90's. Don't give me the internet stock propaganda, either. It was trickle-down econ that made our parents money.

For those of you raised in Nazi Germany that didn't have "Spoke-e-dokes" they were these little plastic thingies that you clipped onto the spokes of your bike and when you rode slow they made this cool ass noise. Then you could go even older school and put a playing card back there. That was also a cool noise.

You know why we didn't have 10 yr olds slitting their wrists in my day?
Because we had slap bracelets instead.

Ooohhh...how I remember the days of playing number crunchers and oregon trail! The good old days of Debbie Gibson and Tiffany...
I'll never forget how much I hated Oliver North. Not for what he did but for being on tv for like ever!
