UNCLASSIFIED:- Our Country AUSTRALIA - The right to leave
How many of you agree with this??!!!
The right to leave. A little too close to the truth on some things.
After hearing that the state of South Australia changed its opinion
and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with
her
face covered prompted this editorial written by an Australian
citizen, published in an Australian newspaper. He did quite a job;
didn't he?
Read on, please!
Quote:
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending
some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali,
we
have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of
Australians.
However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
"politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility
that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration,
nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by
coming to Australia. However, there are a few things that those who have
recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to
understand. This idea of Australia being a multicultural community
has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As
Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own
language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over
centuries
of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who
have
sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic,
Chinese, Japanese, Russian, American or any other language.
Therefore,if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our National Motto.
This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.
We adopted this motto because Christian men and
women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is
clearly
documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of
our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another
part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our
culture.
If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like ' A Fair Go, '
then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this
planet.
We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we
really don't care how you did things where you came from.
This is OUR COUNTRY, Our Land, and Our Lifestyle, and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and
griping about our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of
Life, I
highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian
freedom, "THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

I absolutely agree that challenge and healthy debate are not only natural, but healthy and welcome. I hope you did not construe my rant as a personal attack on you or whatever faith you may practice, if it was I'd be a hypocrite. It's just that I've seen this piece circulated many times, in different variations (though I found the AU version kinder),and it's been a hot button for me. The first time I saw it, it was hanging in a co-workers cubicle, for everyone to see, including the hard-working American Muslims who happen to work there and have as much a right to be there as anyone. I appreciate that you understood my perspective, and I wish you well.

What surprises me most about this post is that no one called the truth on the reviews: This was clearly modified from an article written by an American veteran (is 'In God We Trust' also Australian's national motto?), it appeared in an American newspaper, and it is years old (I first saw it in 2002). Not only is it narrow-minded, it's also clearly aimed at immigrants and a religious minority while the woman in question BORN AND RAISED IN AMERICA. I agree that for obvious security reasons, picture ID is necessary and this story was a reason for concern. But this piece was written by a man who obviously did not do his homework, and for damn sure has no business speaking for me. Ours is a country founded on religious freedom, mostly by DEISTS, not Christians. And while I don't begrudge him his faith, to say "If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture and we are proud to have Him" flies in the face of the Constitution he so proudly cites. I know lots of Americans who celebrate different faiths or freedom FROM religion who find that to be the equivalent of religious persecution. I imagine the same is true in Australia.
I won't -2 you because maybe you meant well. But regurgitating ancient chain mail is just irresponsible..best to check the facts first. Here's a link:

Thanks
I read your review with as much interest as when i read the above article. I'm sure we both agree that in this day and age we as humans and the decisions we make will be challenged by our peers (wether it be based on morals, religion, etc). I hope my time on earth is filled with joy and goodwill and that i and others learn from my mistakes. I wish you the same and thank you for your honest review.
God Bless

The whole photograph thing is rather silly, something of an over-reaction, but I think it's important to remember that the real culprit here is muppetly over-reaction and not islam, the girl who was invlolved or immigrants as a whole. Cultures change, they change because of immigration and also interaction with other cultures, trying to keep things from changing is not healthy. Sort of like a ten your old boy constantly holding his cock between his legs everytime he has an erection.

I had a friend that came back from a visit to New Zealand about 2 months ago and said he got with plenty of hot New Zealand girls based soley on the fact he had a Southern accent. Is there any truth to this or was he maybe just putting the sheep's back legs in his boots???

So i would like to extend an invitation to you and to any of your little mates, to join me in my Neverland Ranch so i can simplify the topic for you, and then we can discuss the topic further (over milk and cookies).
PS: Feel free to pack a toothbrush and some PJ's, and remember, when its time to go home
