With a slight breeze curling the ends of her dark hair over her shoulders, Nikola pulled her dress slightly closer to her slim body to stop it flapping against her legs. Small puffs of breath misted out from her mouth to dissipate amongst the lush green foliage surrounding her. Rays of sunlight darted between the leaves, striking the ground in a flurry of brown and green colour, reflecting off the small puddles lying here and there. Nikola knew she shouldn't be here, but felt compelled to come. A slight sigh escaped her full rosy lips as she blinked away a drop of water out of her startling blue eyes, resigned to the pull of her desire.
Nikola tentatively stepped out of the small thicket concealing her, and walked into the clearing. A small red bird twitted loudly, before disappearing in a flutter of wing beats. Long grass brushed against her legs as she spun in a circle, looking about anxiously. Standing in the open, hoping her longing was coming to an end, she reflected upon what had pulled her here. She closed her eyes.
The voice had spoken to her as she picked bristleberries in the valley. A slightly husky voice, it spoke to her from a concealing wall of thistles. She remembered catching slivers of colour through the brush, but the voice had made her pulse quicken and heart beat like a drum. She didn't even know the face which belonged to it, but she knew she had to meet the owner of that voice. It had told her to meet here, at this time, on this day. She couldn't even tell if it was a man, or a woman.
Just as she was about to open her eyes she felt lips press against her own, warm and soft. She hadn't even heard them approach. Nikola kept her eyes closed, and leaned into the kiss, her arms wrapping around the other's shoulders. She didn't want to open her eyes, she didnt want to ruin the moment. She wanted to prolong the mystery before she found out who this person was. Their hands had snaked around her body, one resting in the curve of her back, while the other carressed her face. The hands felt soft, fingertips brushing over her ear, then she gasped slightly as the lips moved down and kissed her neck.
The lips pulled away, and the fingertips trailed off, brushing her chin with a finger run across her lips. She kept her eyes closed a moment more, letting out a few deep breaths as she tried to capture that moment. The clearing was utterly silent, except for the slight whisper of the breeze brushing the grass with its touch. Finally, she knew she had to open her eyes and see who, what, could make her feel like this.
Her eyes opened, brilliant and blue, lips still slightly parted from that final caress.
The long grass waved gently in the breeze. The clearing was empty.
