For the 2.7 of you who possibly give a flying fuck, I wanted to extend an apology for my absence recently. I'm working two jobs right now, have decided to quit smoking and get back into a disciplined exercise regimen/diet, and spending my "free time" attending band practice, writing new material, and looking for a new place to move.

This move is causing a lot of problems for 3 out of the 4 band members involved. I will be removed from my family and friends, along with a decent work environment. (I am working for a scribe service, along with some part-time delivery, and the scribe job seems like it will end up doing good things for me in the long run, if I stick it out.) My drummer is only 19, and still closely tied to his parents, and seems afraid to leave the area because of people and school. Yet another problem, my drummer and guitarist are both attending University of Florida at the moment. I work with my guitarist at the scribe job, and my bassist at the delivery job.

You would think that we have a decent set-up and should work with what we have, right? Seems like we're insatiable to me, but what we have isn't enough right now. The music scene in this town is nothing but garbage (and trust me, it's BAD) screamo/indie/gheypunk nonsense. Not a single musician in the area that I would consider truly talented, other than these 3 guys.

In comes the dilemma. We have narrowed (at least temporarily) our choices down to Raleigh and Orlando. Our bassist claims that the music scene in Raleigh is absolutely sweet, while I think that the Orlando area will benefit us more. It appears that, among the four of us, the benefit will be divvied up evenly, regardless of if we end up in Orlando or Raleigh.

This is where you all come in. I'm wondering if there are any Uberites who know anything about the insides of either of these scenes. We've been deliberating about this problem for quite a while now, and no real resolution has been reached. The move will be made when our current lease is up, at the end of October. Any information you can impart would be very useful.

One last thing- for those of you that I haven't had a chance to talk to about the show yet, it went really well. For the environment especially, we got excellent crowd response, and a lot of positive feedback. People are calling us the greatest band ever. My bassist got more acclaim than I have ever seen a musician get after a show. There is nothing better than being surrounded by intelligent people who love quality and effort in music. These guys are the best, and I'm very excited about what's to come.

I'll be sure to come back by here when we have our tour information available and post it all. Thanks for your input, Uber, and any help you may be able to offer in the resolution of this problem.

What the fuck are bay leaves??

Anywho, can't help you on the whole move thing. I'm outside Philly and depending on your taste in music, it can be a pretty happening city.

without reading any of the reviews (meaning I'll probably duplicate someone else's words of wisdom) Move to the place that is most adventagous for the band. Which ever city is WORST in terms of current musical offerings. It gives your band an instant edge, and of course, there won't be as much decent competition which will lead to more paying gigs sooner.

As for which of the two that is - I dunno. I heard some nice guitar in Orlando, though...

And, um, if you ever need a back-up singer....

Williamson-

We will be completing 2 tracks within the next few weeks. Once all copyright issues are resolved, I will be more than happy to post either or both of these songs.

Berty-

I am going to get conceited for a moment. The only current band that is anywhere near the level we are playing at is Tool. Honestly, we're better- not much, but enough. I'm sure this comment is going to get me flamed for being a cocky prick, but if I didn't believe us to be the very best, I don't think we would have reason to persist. We are bringing something truly provocative and original, something that actually brings an air of effort into the casual and pathetic scene that currently owns the fans and airwaves.

This music, what we are together, is the culmination of my life's work and dreams. Just because it hasn't been making me sick money, doesn't necessarily mean that I haven't invested effort or time into it. It's the greatest thing in the world to me, and the opportunity to take it further is more than enough inspiration to urge me to persist.

Yeah, there are a lot of other kids out there "playing music", but few of them truly have a desire to let that be their career, to spend their life getting better at it, perfecting it. Bands out there with a true talent are almost nonexistant, primarily because they don't understand music theory and don't drive do be any better. And John Lennon was a wanker.

Tool is only an "awesome" band because of Danny Carey. Without him, they'd just be another rock band. Chancellor is NOTHING special to speak about, Maynard is painfully overrated, and Adam Jones is a slightly better than mediocre guitarist. Danny Carey makes them.

BAMF- If this all goes as planned, it will give me the opportunity to obtain custody of my son. The best thing I can do for him is offer him a solid environment, and I can't do it right now. I have reason to believe this will change all of that.

ETS- You're right about Orlando and the metal scene. There is a lot of that style happening in the area, but I don't really have the voice for it, and our drummer is more of a punk style than anything else- thing Travis Barker with a lot of pent up aggression. One thing's definite, we don't sound like anyone else. I've never seen a bass player (except for Wooten) do anything RESEMBLING what our bassist does. We are leaning toward moving to Raleigh, rather than staying in the Orlando area, but we would rather have something a bit more concrete. Seems like we would have all needs met in Raleigh as well, with 60 different venues seeking our attentions. This is a hard choice...

Have at it.

If I'm not mistaken, Orlando is a big metal town. Metal as in Roadrunner Records. Not sure, but I think that's where they are based out of. It might be a good move because you might find an audience, but you should make sure you're not just going to get lost in the crowded scene.

If you have a choice to move or stay...move. If you stay now, you always will. These are just the facts. I've seen too many people do that same thing. If you don't move, your dream will most likely die. Even if your bandmates don't want to move, you should. If you really want to do it, just do it.

They'll come around eventually. If not, there is never a shortage of talent running around in every city you'll go to.

Good luck.

Bart says Orlando. Is bart ever wrong?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He never actually did tell me what he was doing out on that street whilst that gun battle was going on, if it hadn't been for James Bond he'd have been proper fucked. In any case I'm sure the whole thing was down to some manner of error on Bart's part otherwise he'd have been wearing more than a bathrobe.

But don't give up on your music.

Tool is where Yes would have ended up if they all suffered brain damage that simotaniously made their songs less complex, more rhymicially driven, and filled them with youthful angst.

Actully, that is my theory on how TOOL was formed. I blame the 80s for this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOOL is actually quite good, orchestral style and catchy little riffs.

Berty has no time for music though.

Dude. It's not going to happen, do you have any idea how many other talented, wanna be, rock-stars are littering the world today? You do, 'cause I imagine most of your freinds are in similar bands. Do you really think your group is talented and creative enough to make it? Even if you do get signed do you think you really deserve to?

Seriously?

Do you believe you're the next John Lennon? Do you really have anything of worth to contribute?

Get a proper job and stop being afraid to settle down and live your life. There's more important things in life than 'the band'.

I used to live in Orlando and there always seemed to be a good draw for local bands. There are a couple places downtown and a couple north of town that had bigger crowds and I believe gave a large cut of the door money to the bands. Plus, with all the tourists, a gig downtown will draw almost any day of the week.
