Below is an article from the national newspaper referring to an incident that happended yeaterday
Bait lured croc to couple's canoe
From: AAP By Janelle Miles
August 17, 2005
A 4m crocodile chased a baited fishing line to the side of a canoe before dragging a man into a Queensland waterhole, authorities said today
Barry Jeffries was fishing with his wife on dusk yesterday when his wife Glenda saw the 400kg saltwater crocodile swimming towards the canoe.
The reptile lunged at her husband, who tried to fight it off using a paddle, but it grabbed his arm, capsized the canoe and disappeared into the waterhole in the state's far north.
Mrs Jeffries swam to the bank and when she could not see her husband drove 20 minutes to the nearest ranger station to raise the alarm.
Authorities today said the couple had visited the area before, and knew the risks they were taking by using such a small craft to explore an area where very large crocodiles were known to be.

"(The Jeffries) had been visitors to the area previously," said Cairns Police Superintendent Mike Keating, who is co-ordinating the search.
"They understood the situation and that's the risk they took.
"There are warning signs advising of crocodiles in the area. It's well signed."
Tourist operators who know the area well believe the crocodile involved in the attack was an old animal that has lived in the water hole, and others nearby, along the Normanby River for many years.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) has issued an order for the crocodile to be destroyed.

There was an incident about a year or 2 back when a surfer was attacked and killed by a shark. Straight away the local authorities decided that the shark responsible should be hunted down and killed. The dead surfers father went public and stated that, its part of the hazzards that his son (and others that shared his sons passion for this sport) faced, everytime they they were out there on the water.
Local authorities went ahead anyway and hunted down the shark and proceeded to terminate its life.
Everytime i hear of things like this i think, who are we to pass judgement on these fellow species. Its not like a shark comes onto land and gets run down by a car,and then a whole group of sharks come on land hunting down the human that killed their fellow species to end his life.
I don't know how you fellow Ubers feel about this
Me, myself i know i take to heart

How about cuddle up to the administrator ....
For all those sad about the killing of Sharks and Crocs, take a step back. Man has killed off many species ... and we will kill off many more ... we are a long way away from learning. We will probably be the end of us too.

what if the croc was a gang member. and the fishers were a couple driving through the gang's territory.
the gang member k illed the couple, because they were on the gang's turf.
then the cops arrested the gang member, and prosecuted him, and he was sentenced to death.

The death penalty is not a good idea, it's well dodgy. Incarceration is fraught with problems as well.
I think they should cut his balls off and put them on ice for a couple of decades before re-attatching them. That'll curb his agressive tendencies.

You gotta pay to play.
And I guess it may be a little different with crocs, but the idea that you would be able to go out and catch the one shark responsible for a particular attack--given the amount of territory they cover in a day (larger sharks) and the sheer number of them in the water (smaller sharks)--is somewhat, uh, laughable.

For the preservation of the greater race. We must ensure that aggressors to us are terminated. If the croc had lived peacefully among us he would not be hunted down. Just as humans who do not live peacefully among us are hunted down and killed. I respect your opinion though.

HAHA!
Sharks in balaclavas, starting their own vigilante gang, walking around with baseball bats.
I hope I never see that again in my lifetime. I almost lost an eye.

I'm torn because I am a hunter, not for sport or trophy of it...I eat everything I kill.
But I don't agree with killing another predator just because 'we' have encroached on its turf.

yeah, I read this in an English national newspaper today.
I agree with you. Every animal has a right to life. I wouldn't kill a mouse or a snail or even a greenfly. In fact I saved the life of a little greenfly the other day when he flew in my pint. I tended him till he's sobered up and flown off.
