So after bitching about nothing to write about for a while, I had something great happen to me on my way home from work yesterday. As some of you may know from my not shitty post, comments, etc. I am currently looking for a job. I do have one, but it's being moved to a land far, far away so I'm looking for a new one.
Well, 2 or 3 weeks ago I landed an interview. Not just any interview mind you, but an interview for a job doing EXACTLY what I do now. Literally. From both what was posted to everything they said in the phone interview, this was MY fuckin' job. Naturally knowing this puts me in a great mood. They throw out "how would you's" and "have you ever's", and I nailed it like a rock star with his groupies.
There was a small hitch though. When they asked about my future ambitions, I mentioned my desire to manage others (not the best idea in a company with 4 people). Also, I was probably a good 15 years younger than anyone else there - even though technically it's illegal to discriminate based on that, how can I prove it? Anyway, they say they'll call me Monday to set up my next interview, and it would be between one other guy and me. Monday comes and goes (no big deal), but I call Tuesday so I don't drop off of the radar. Voicemail. They don't call back. Wednesday I email. No response. Whatever.
Fastforward back to yesterday evening, 2-3 weeks later. I'm driving home in the rain, and see a car on the side of the road. The guy's not in the car (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense), so I pull over to see if I can help. I roll down my window, and to my surprise it's Tim (the main interviewer, same guy that said they'd call Monday). He explains how he got a flat tire, and got out to change it only to lock his keys (and cell phone) in his car, and on top of that his spare was flat.
I could have given him a ride to the closest gas station.
I could have at least let him wait in my car until a tow truck, or somebody came to get him.
What did I do?
I told him I was running late for an appointment, but said I'd call Roadside Assistance and left. And maybe I will. In a few weeks. God that felt good.

Hey man, sometimes it takes them many weeks to get back to you. I have had a few interview where they give the you the good ole "we'll call you next week" only to have to wait 4, 5, even 6 weeks later before getting a phone call. Sometimes they get busy, or have other things come up. I only hope that you do get anally probed by a porcupine.

The funny thing is, I used to be a sincerely nice guy until I kept noticing that it was the jerks, assholes, and the like that always got what I wanted. The big money, the good jobs, the hot women, etc. - so I changed.

What a waste. I'm sorry to hear it.

I'm sure Tim will be the first person you think of when your alternator craps out on you late at night on a country road in the middle of nowhere. <cue creepy banjo music>

Ditto for the job I have now. I interviewed almost a month and a half before they finally called me back. The company was moving from Massachusetts to Texas, and things took longer than expected. Now I have a stellar job with a company I really enjoy. Because I was patient. This will come back to haunt you, mark my words.

+2 because if I had an opportunity like that, I'd do it. Hell yes I hold grudges, and I hold them damn tight, and I've applied for a lot of jobs or gone on interviews and have never heard from people from the company. It would feel sweet to finally teach one of them a lesson like that.
But just a bit of warning, here's a story. About two months ago I went on this interview, and in the end I felt like I was a shoe-in for the job, but didn't get any calls back. I called like five times, left voicemails, never got a response. Then like three weeks later the guy calls me back and says he wants to hire me. Turns out his mother was dying, so he didn't have the time to hire me. But I have the job now. Patience is a virtue, they say.
Hope that job opportunity wasn't TOO important to you.

to get the guy back for what? Deciding that you weren't the best person for the job they were offering? Yeah... he didn't get any bad karma for what he did. You, on th eotherhand... I hope you like life reincarnated as a dung beetle.
---------------------------------------------------------------
No, for lying about saying I had another interview and they would call me about it. Like I said, if he didn't want to hire me (for a fair and legal reason) it's his loss, but he could have at least been fucking honest about it, and maybe, just maybe, even given me that reason. Is that out of line? I don't think it is. So I merely turned the tables, and lied to him (also about making a phone call). It's poetic justice. And even though 2 wrongs don't make a right, the three lefts I took to get home do.

Good job on not helping out a fellow human just to spite. Really classy stuff.

I figure what goes around comes around. If they didn't want to hire me, he should have just said so.

Sweet revenge:) So do you believe in bad charma now?

I'd prefer to think that Karma used me to get that jerk back, so I didn't incur any incidental bad Karma. <fingers crossed> But I guess we'll see.

You have no concrete evidence as to why they haven't called you back. You may have just missed an opprotunity that could have changed your life. Hope it was worth it.
---------------------------------------------------------------
True, but they had several chances to get back to me and chose not to.

That's how Karma works.
