Why living in a secured complex is no where near as secure as you think it is (638 hits)

I moved into my current apartment about 5 months ago. The complex itself is about 2 years old, but the building I moved into is brand new, and I'm the first person to live in my unit.
One of the selling points when I signed the lease was the security. Let's just say the area of town this complex is in isn't the best in the world. It's getting better, slowly but surely, but still, I don't like seeing news crews at 10 o'clock doing segments about the latest carjacking 3 blocks from me.
Anyway, the security in my complex is supposed to be card-based entry through the gates, and then card entry into the building itself. We also have a security patrol driving around the whole complex, but the four people I've met who work that job are all just about the slowest people I've ever met.
When I moved in, the management company said that the gates were not operational yet, but would be in a week or so, and that I would get my security cards within 10 days, and for the time being, I could use a 5 digit code.
Like I said, I moved in about 5 months ago, and the gates are still not working. Oh, they open and close alright, but they open and close on a motion detector, so that anyone who wants in can get in. And any small animals that walk by. And any plastic bag that blows across the driveway. And sometimes the air.
Oh, and I'm still waiting on my entry card. I've been given 5 different codes now, and each time I'm told that I'll get my cards by the end of the next week.
Ah well... At least I get free cable, and my utilities are part of my rent.
Now if only I can find a way to get the wigger who lives above me to realize that Shaggy went out of style 5 years ago.

C'mon. Good basics. There has to be a funny/dramtic/interesting story involving all this. An armless mime got in the complex and urinated wildly about the area. Something.

This post is like, the opening to the story that you didn't tell.

This kind of had no point. I rank something negatively only when it actually pisses me off... this was just... neutral.
You should write something decent soon, cos you seem not to be a tool like most of the latest batch.

No guessing.
A bit stilted and not very interesting but I've seen 1st posts lacking more than this one.
Keep playing

Move. Everyone and the pizza drivers all have that 5 digit code by now.
Move to a nice side of town where real cops patrol.

You'd get better reviews if you didn't write about crap.

I like Shaggy.
The apartment complex I used to live in gives cops staggering discounts to live there because before they started doing that, people kept getting robbed and/or murdered. Install extra locks and get a large dog.

Apollo, that was brilliant. I was thinking the exact same thing, but I didn't know how to put it into words.

It's funny what people who don't live surrounded by government buildings consider "secure".
I work in a "secure" building, and you can tell because we have armed security guards and a SWAT team stationed upstairs. Stupid Boeing and their stupid government contracts.
