Gotta keep this quick and dirty.
Round 5 was more or less your nitty gritty contender on contender action. The consolation bracket match was a forfeit by JGreening, hence the Donk moves on.
Not to say I was disappointed, though. There were some incredible stories this round, here is the breakdown of the action.

There are only two more rounds of the Epic that has been Ubermadness III! That's right, the uberlord will be known by this time in two weeks! Incredible stuff, I never thought we'd see the end.

Jack - (at the risk of submitting a premature comment) your story is very clever and by far the better submission. Had you done a knock knock joke or something then I would've had a chance. An early congrats to you, although I could, in an unexpected turn of events, get 47 votes in the next hour, you never know.

Lose the consolation round.
Also,
Another permanent page with links to the final graphical bracket of each UM would be cool. Kinda like a hall of fame, or shame, depending on where you sit in the bracket when it's all said and done.

Q-tip,
I totally agree with you that the consolation bracket is a good idea in principal. But as you say, no one seems to care. i found myself trying a little less hard than usual.
it also seems, however, by this point in the competition, people are going to vote for the story they like best. for example, snark and domenad are both awesome writers (shame about their matchup this round) with what i'm sure are what you might call "followings" on uber.
but the nature of UM leads to the two best writers facing off. chances are, two good writers on uber (again, using the snark/domenad model) are going to have _overlapping_ fan bases who like both writers a lot. therefore, folks will simply go with the idea of the contest: the best story will win.

The concept of the consolation bracket is great, but no one gives a shit after they lose, so it really doesn't work at all.
Protecting the anonymous nature of each match was always been key in UM. The problem is that the fewer people there are competing, the easier it is to guess who the authors are. Especially if they have distinct styles.
I think it's something worth considering for next time.
How did everyone think the revised timeline worked out?

I agree with cutting the consolation bracket. It's distracting from the honest entries when people don't have the energy or will to try.

thank God a submission is missing. i'm sure it will be a good one, as is only one or two other matchups this round.
that said, i think there is a tendency for competitors to lose steam towards the end, particularly if they are in the consolation brackets. i know i did.
i would like to second someone's recommendation (ryufu's, i think) that future UM's have only a winner, runner up, and gaggle of losers.
it will keep me more interested that way for sure.

My "hate" for razor stems from his pompous attitude, then his forfeit with the the claim that he had no internet access for a week. At a tech conference. That and everyone seems to kiss his ass.
I went and looked back at other UM Analysis posts before I put that comment in. I didn't see you rip razor anywhere. In fact, you had nothing to say about anything after Round 4. So, unless you ripped into him on the phone or in a private email, I call bullshit.
